Hello everyone! (Hi Kitt!) - I never post on here but I have a question that I was wondering if you fine folks can answer for me. I have Acid Reflux and right now I am taking generic Prilosec (sorry, I don't know how to spell it the generic form). The Prilosec does an awesome job of controlling it. I only take one pill in the mornings and once in a blue moon, take another at night (per my GI's consent). But lately it seems that after I eat, I get really phlegmy and cough a lot - feels like there is a lump in the back of my throat. I am pretty sure this has to do with my acid reflux and not allergies because it corresponds ONLY after I eat. I really don't want to keep taking another Prilosec in the evenings, but is there anything else I can do to help ease the thick phlegm, lump like feeling?

One of the symptoms that used to drive me crazy was this thick phlegm feeling. I found that it was triggered by certain foods and not as much by others. I started keeping a meal journal each day of things I ate and how my symptoms reacted to it. After a month or so, I had a pretty good idea of what foods to avoid. While it didn't get rid of it completely, it really helped me out. Requires a little work, but may help you!

Sherry-

Welcome to our little corner! I agree with bowecho on seeing if there is a certain trigger food. If you haven't talked with your GI in a while you might want to discuss this with him/her. It might be time to switch PPIs.

When exactly do you take your PPI? It works best if taken 30 minutes before you eat. I do have certain foods that give me that phlegmy issue for a while, but not the globulus feeling.

Take care,
Bill

I usually take it about an hour before I eat in the morning. I get the acid reflux feeling mostly in the mornings. But this lump like feeling is fairly new. I was planning on asking my GI about it when I see him next month.
