Hello. My name is Ashley and i'm relatively new to the forums. I am 27 years old. I started experiencing GERD-like symptoms in July of 2011. My symptoms are: constant belching, frequent burning in the upper middle abdomen, vomitting frequently (immediately after eating- I do not have a high fat diet at all and typically eat small meals), waking up due to excessive pain in the middle of the night, etc.

I recently had an upper endoscopy which showed that I had mild-moderate gastritis.

My ultrasound showed that my gallbladder is "filled" with sludge.

I saw a surgeon today and he suggested I have my gallbladder removed. He indicated that the gallbladder could be what's causing the acid reflux symptoms, not GERD.

I am concerned because after doing some research, it seems that GERD is common post gallbladder surgery. Has anyone who thought they had GERD had their gallbladder removed? If so, did it help the acid reflux symptoms (burning, vomiting, belching, etc)??? I don't want my symptoms to get WORSE if I choose to remove my gallbladder. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am in constant pain and tired of living this way.

PLEASE HELP!!!

Welcome to HealingWell and we are glad you found us.  I would listen to your Dr. and have that gall bladder removed.  The longer you leave the diseased gall bladder alone the more chance you take of having complications from living with a sick gall bladder.

Take this one step at a time and if you feel it would help you do seek out a second opinion.
