Hello all, I am new here.

I was having chest pain and chest tightness about 3 months ago and I went to the ER and had an EKG done and they told me it is not heart disease. The diagnosis they gave me was either GERD or I had some rib inflammation, which I don't believe it is because the tightness is in the centre of my chest.

I also have a history of generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety and OCD.

To get back to my ER visit. Once the doctor told me that it wasn't my heart the tightness and pain went away within in a few days. Plus I did take ranitidine for 3 or 4 days and that could have helped with it too.

It is now 3 months later and I am getting the same tightness and pain that I had again, so I have started the ranitidine again and hope that will help. But I did see somewhere about someone having a heart attack and I think that is when I have been having the chest tightness and pain again.

The tightness and chest pain has been affecting me for 4 days straight now. I would just like some advice, or people who have the same symptoms.

Thank you all

Can a doctor really know that it has nothing to do with my head just by doing an ekg?

I am getting really bad left arm pain right now.

Xanax 1mg 4 times a day, hot baths for the pain, due to strange doctors where i live, they don't like to prescribe nothing for pain, it's pretty much suffer and then that just causes more depression, thanks doc.

Welcome to HealingWell.  I am sorry to read of your concerns.
You posted, " I also have a history of generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety and OCD"  I am wondering what you are doing to deal with your anxiety as chest pain can be caused by many things and anxiety rates right up there at the top of the list.  Add GERD to the mixture and you have several things going on that can cause chest pain besides a heart problem.
Yes, people have heart attacks but that does not mean you are going to have one.  Try not to read anything that will trigger your mind into worrying about your heart and follow up with your PCP on a regular basis.
When your mind starts to wander into "what if?" thinking, distract Yourself! If you can find a task to occupy yourself in the short term this can reduce anxiety and occupy your mind, e.g. doing a crossword, counting (this is not a long term solution, however).
I would suggest that therapy would be helpful for you to learn to deal with your anxiety problems.
I wish you well,
