There is no easy answer to your question. Some will get healed by waiting it out, some can just change diet, some needs medicine, some will need an operation and some will need a bit of all.
If you are on meds now, that should stop the acid from getting out of the stomach and most people can reduce the meds after 1- 2 months and feel good.
You should not worry about the cancer part though. It is very few people who gets it and only if not treated over several years there is a slightly higher chance of developing it. If you know you have GERD you will be checked by Endoscopy regularly which can tell you if you have early signs like Barrett’s. Just remember that even though you have Barrett’s the chances of cancer are still minimal it is not given that you get cancer.
The obstruction in your throat is not real either, it just feels like an obstruction. For now just focus on the meds, if they don’t work there are other types of meds you can try. Regarding diets you should just Google it and you will find lots of suggestions. The most common suggestions are to avoid:
- Tomato (also tomato sauces and in particular Pizzas)
- Carbonated drinks such as Coke
- Food that contains a lot of fat.
