If your doc said it is GERD, there is a good chance he is right. The symptoms you describe are known and fairly common if you have severe GERD or the LPR version of GERD.
If you are lucky you should see results within one to six months. If not you will need further tests. Have a look around this forum and you will get to know much of the available tools to deal with this. But there should be a good chance you could be helped by the meds

Do u feel that GERD is life threatening as at some place it was mentioned that GERD leads to esphogeal cancer too , as constantly the acid comes back affecting our esphogeal lining too , although its a primary stage but am very much distressed so acc what medicines should be followed and can anyone tell if he had GERD den in how much time he got healed and with what diet , also tell me about milk if it should be taken or not during this phase ?????

There is no easy answer to your question. Some will get healed by waiting it out, some can just change diet, some needs medicine, some will need an operation and some will need a bit of all.

If you are on meds now, that should stop the acid from getting out of the stomach and most people can reduce the meds after 1- 2 months and feel good.

You should not worry about the cancer part though. It is very few people who gets it and only if not treated over several years there is a slightly higher chance of developing it. If you know you have GERD you will be checked by Endoscopy regularly which can tell you if you have early signs like Barrett’s. Just remember that even though you have Barrett’s the chances of cancer are still minimal it is not given that you get cancer.

The obstruction in your throat is not real either, it just feels like an obstruction. For now just focus on the meds, if they don’t work there are other types of meds you can try. Regarding diets you should just Google it and you will find lots of suggestions. The most common suggestions are to avoid:
- Tomato (also tomato sauces and in particular Pizzas)
- Chocolate
- Coffee
- Carbonated drinks such as Coke
- Food that contains a lot of fat.

Good things are:
- Oatmeal
- Chicken
- Potatoes

Finaly, remember we are not doctors. If you are in doubt of anything you should seek proffesional help.

As I said before there really is no answer to whether this is a one off or something you will need to deal with the rest of your life.
Most often it is something that will come and go and then one day it may leave you for good. If it is something that is there for life, most will find using meds occasionally will relieve them and they can carry on with their lives
