I'm a 23/f non smoker, not overweight and have been experiencing MILD indigestion/heartburn for years now. I would pop a Tum or Mylanta and be perfectly fine. about four weeks ago I noticed this slight gagging sensation in my throat which seemed to be worse in the mornings but would also sometimes present intermittently throughout the day. I didn't notice any other symptoms but saw my doctor who cleared me of h.pylori (I asked for a test) so I was negative. He gave me Parriet to try and I found it made no difference. Zantac seemed to help a lot but then after a few days, it didn't. I went to another doctor who took one look in my mouth and said I had an enlarged uvula and irritation (inflammation?) at the back of my throat from a post nasal drip. He gave me antibiotics and it turned out I had an awful sinus infection (but I hadn't had a cold or anything). I didn't experience this gagging sensation the entire time I was taking the antibiotics (clarithromycin) and my infection went away...but 8 days later, I am STILL getting this sensation.
Here's my symptoms:
feeling like there's a build up of liquid or water in my throat
the constant need to swallow
a sudden gagging sensation (but no nausea or vomitting)
sometimes like a burning sensation in my stomach
I am going crazy thinking it's just anxiety or something but I know it's not. My mum thinks perhaps my infection hasn't fully cleared up. I still have a cough with some phlegm but I don't think there's any post nasal drip happening...but then again, I had no idea about it in the first place?
What should I do?

Hi pretend,
Welcome to Healing Well!
Since the sensation went away while you were on the antibiotic, I would tend to agree with your mum, that you're still experiencing PND and ought to tell your doc your symptoms.  If after you've had two rounds of antibiotic for the sinus infection and you continue to feel the symptoms you're describing, it would certainly make sense to pursue your GERD suspicions.
I feel your pain...I'm dealing with a stubborn sinus infection as well.
I hope you feel better soon,

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.  Perhaps you should see an Ear, Nose, Throat specialist ?  You could try another round of antibiotics but if you are miserable you should see a specialist.  Sometimes a nasal spray recommended by a physician will help.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

How did the doctor know it was a sinus infection? Irritation can be caused be a number of things.

Aside from the throat irritation and occasional stomach issues, are you having other symptoms?
