I'm curious as to whether those of you with TMJ have undergone treatment such as using a splint to correct your bite?

My dentist explains how your bite affects your swallowing and airway which affects the pharanyx....isn't the UES near all that too?

Wow, this maybe a link to LPR guys......

But have any of you undergone treatment for your TMJ? How are you doing?

Thanks.

Max

i had a mouth piece for tmj. wore it at night. tmj was gone after 2 months. no more pain or popping. insurance covered half of the 500. i have severe lpr..my dentist told me there are no dental procedures or devices to help lpr. i specifically asked in january. if you want to try it that is up to you..who knows. arresting reflux is the only thing i know to stop lpr which is very hard to do..that is why i take 2 ppis had nissen strict diet and still have it. but again give it a shot if u want. maybe youll be one of the lucky ones. again regarding tmj i see no connection to lpr, but that mouth piece fixed the tmj...for me anyway

Joe,

What kind of mouth piece was it? Was it splints? Mine is going to cost about $2k. Than ortho treatment to follow.

It's just that there seems to be a lot of people with TMJ and GERD/LPR.......

I also suffer from TMJ. Was fitted with a mouthpiece many years ago. Only seems to trouble me now in times of extreme stress. More recently diagnosed with severe sleep apnea : (

Thanks Joe.

I'm not certain if this will help the LPR but this is something I had to do anyway.

My dentist said TMJ can manifest itself in multiple ways for different people.

My jaw is badly misaligned and way back. I do snore and at times believed I had sleep apnea.

Lets hope this helps

In order to diagnose Sleep apnea, you need to spend the night in a sleep lab. I was surprised at my results, which were pretty severe. It was actually my ENT doctor who told me that my throat was very inflamed and encouraged me see my Gastro for a consult. The Cpap machine that I use every night was supposed to improve my night time reflux, but it was not unfortunately a cure. There does seem to be a link though with TMJ and sleep apnea and reflux that I had seen reading online before I had my surgery.

I just had my 7 week post-op check-up and am now cleared to eat whatever I want to!!
