You would think I would know but let me give you my situation first.
Suffer from anxiety but mostly only medical condition anxiety.
I vaguely remember a bad case of heartburn once about 4 years ago at a stressful prior job for a few weeks that went away on its own after a few weeks of Zantac and no actual heartburn at all since then until this current "condition".
More Current details:
Underlying condition that started current condition: Very thick mucus in nose and throat
about 3 months ago under some stress but not sure if a factor but started getting real thick mucus in nose upon waking up. It would be minor then. I would use a simple water irrigater in morning and then it was mostly good the rest of the day. Then it either got worse or I thought about it more and eventually its all I thought about for like a week. Then I am started asking every pharmacist about allergy meds and still no help. It might dry a little or stop its production depending if I took it consistently or not and if I used a decongestant at the same time but only a few days were ok, but most were still terrible and annoying. It seemed like it wasn't allergies. I went from not much water a day to like 4-8 glasses while dealing with the allergy side effects. Then a few weeks ago I almost started having panic attacks from this mucous condition because I thought I would eventually have so much junk it my throat I couldn't breathe. I went to a General practitioner. He looked at my nose and throat and basically saw nothing wrong (probably because by that time of the day, the mucous is less). He didn't mention any medical conditions. So I left with confidence thinking that nothing was wrong and maybe it has all been just anxiety driven. But the next morning, the mucous was terrible and I again went into my thick mucousy panicky condition. Then when googling thick sticky mucous on the internet about 10 days ago, I see GERD pop up at a forum site and about 5-8 people talked about the thick sticky mucous as a problem they had for months/years while they dealt with their particular problem or facet of gastro problem. So I wondered if it was gastro instead of allergic. So then I changed focus to acid reflux. The first couple of days I tried zantac with no condition change. Then I thought, well Prilosec is stronger and over the counter so I will at least try it. By this time I am not drinking alcohol or smoking for 3 weeks and am on a 6 glasses per day water regimen and I am trying anything to cure it. So I eagerly take the Prilosec at 5pm because I am a rookie at PPI's and want it to start working so I can fix the morning mucous problem instead of waiting until the morning to start it. Well guess what. The first part is great, I wake up the next day and my nose is very good. So great that I was almost crying in joy. I have been on it now 6 days and the morning mucous is barely noticeable. If I have any it is running instead of thick and sticky. So it isn't gone but 90% fixed. But then the new/different/unfixed problem I have now. Ok, so now i am happy with mucous mostly gone and you say well is there then a problem? Well yes. Now since I have taken the prilosec I actually HAVE heartburn for days 2-6 which I did NOT have when I had the mucous problem or any other time. At least not enough to notice it, maybe it was there but I never had heartburn per say. On days 1-5 I woke up with a little heartburn and since I have gravity on my side it goes away after 10-15 minutes and I am good until late afternoon and then after I take the Prilosec around 5pm it gets good in 15-30 minutes. But now on day 6, i woke up and it never went away, I could feel it all day. Then when I took the Prilosec at 5pm, it didn't take it away then either. I feel it now as I type at 10pm. So I am confused. Have I created the reflux or has the drug started "working" and that causes the feelings?
Does this make any sense? So I am confused if this fixed the mucous problem or if the mucous was fixed out of a week of constant water and now I just added PPI's as an acid reflux CAUSER to my system. If you are familair with my condition please let me know what is happening and how it happened to you and you diagnosis and treatment. I gave a long narrative but not sure if I explained it right, so ask questions if needed. Thanks.
