Firstly, welcome to HealingWell. This is a great website for asking questions about GERD/heartburn symptoms and getting tips on how to treat them.
Firstly, yes, the lump in the throat feeling is a very common GERD symptom. Medically, it's called a "globus sensatition". Tumors take years and years to grow so the likelihood that it is a growth is very low :)
Secondly, your nightly ritual has been known to exacerbate GERD symptoms due to the unintended effect of relaxing the lower esophageal sphincter (the valve that keeps acid in your tummy). There are studies that go both ways on this issue, but from message boards I've read, the majority of actual users agree that it seems to make symptoms flare rather than help them.
Thirdly, the gurgling in your stomach is pretty common. I get it also. But it could also just be because you're hungry.
I don't know if you're having other symptoms (burning in the chest, pressure in the chest, belching, etc) so it might have just been an isolated incident and might not have been acid reflux at all! If you are having those symptoms, though, let us know and we can give you advice on how to manage the symptoms, but if you are feeling really bad, you will probably have to go and see a doctor eventually.
Also, we try to refrain from stating our political beliefs here as we want everyone to feel welcome and accepted.
Hope this helps!
