Hi everyone:

I have been feeling a LITTLE better lately meaning I haven't had the big lump in the throat feeling. However, I have noticed that upon taking a really deep breath that I feel a little pain in my chest. I have no idea if this could be related to what I've been going through though.

Can I give just a bit of history here:

I have been on a bunch of lyme ABX and herbal things and went off everything about two weeks ago to see if they were causing it. Then, I quit taking my 30 Mg Cymbalta seven days ago thinking that might be causing it. My acid reflux (or whatever this is) started about 2-3 months ago and I have it every day. Anyhow, I tried taking PPI's and they make me worse. Instead of a small lumpy feeling in my throat, it feels like I have a baseball in my throat and I become very uncomfortably bloated and just even more miserable.

I talked to GI doc who told me to go off everything. He told me that if the PPI's are not working, then my problem is not acid. He said these commercials on tv lead us all to believe that our problems are always acid and that just by taking a pill, we will feel better. Not true!

Anyway, this hurting while taking a really deep breath just started in the last maybe four days. Should I be worried that this is related to the issues with reflux that I'm having. My GI doc said that if I dont start getting better, he wants to do an endoscopy. I don't know if I should wait this out for a few more weeks and see if things get better now that I'm off all the drugs or get the endoscopy. I certainly don't want to develop Barretts or anything like that. I've already convinced myself that I need LINX surgery.

Also, I had an endoscopy about 8 years ago because I was having horrible reflux. (It was my gallbladder giving me trouble but didn't know it at the time). Anyway, my LES valve is very loose. However, my reflux cleared up and I had no problems at all with reflux again until about 2-3 months ago.

Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated.

I've asked a similar question before and generally get a yes response from the couple other people who seem to share the same symptom. I only get it at night, when taking in a deep breath makes it feel as if I were doing so in very cold weather, or with a mint in my mouth. I think it is heartburn related, but curious to see what others write.

Mine is all day long. Today it has been worse though. I think I am going to try and do the Prilosec route again. I called my GI doc and have an endoscopy scheduled for May 24th. I wish it was sooner, but that is all they have available at this time.

Yes, I get this symptom but only when my heartburn is flaring up. It happens when I inhale or exhale deeply, mostly during yoga. It feels like muscle soreness in my diaphragm. Who knows. I don't have a hernia so I'm pretty lost as to what it could be.

Take care,
