Anyone get cold hands and feet or carpal tunnel whilst on PPI?

I've always struggled with side effects of my PPI:-

Depression (mild) which lifts immediately on stopping
Cold hands and feet which also stops immediately the drug is withdrawn
Constant false hunger sensation
Dizziness (lowered blood pressure)
Lowered haemoglobin, white cells and platelets

I take it to relieve:-

Morning nausea
Mid sternal pain
Belching

It reduces these symptoms but by no where near enough. I've continued out of fear of being more ill. However, my freezing cold hands and feet has now turned into carpal tunnel (hands and feet tingling, pins and needles, waking with puffy hands and pins and needles) so I think I'm going to have to try reducing or withdrawing again.

Just wondering if it's a side effect anyone else has had?

Aw, MMM. I'm sorry to hear about this. I've been getting the puffy hands but that's from sleeping sitting up on the couch >:(

Forgive me if I'm remembering wrong, but you've tried several PPI's, right? Did you have these symptoms on all of them? If not, maybe simply switching to another would help you.

Hope it resolves soon!

Hi Ashley,

Initially I tried different ones because of severe skin reaction, which bizarrely resolved with the help of olive oil, spoonful a day, last year. But the other side effects were the same - tried pantoprazole and omeprazole and previously during a shorter GERD "attack" I tried esomeprazole and had to stop that due to numbness of my finger tips!

I have tried high dose Zantac but it doesn't help much.

Hmmm. So have done 3 days of half dose PPI with a big dose of Zantac on the side.

I now have normal circulation, no coldness, no pins and needles. And my tinnitus has also spontaneously cleared up. Coincidence? I don't think so, but will have to wait longer to see what happens.

Stomach not good - but then it was rubbish on full dose anyway!

Hi,i can relate to your side effects on ppi,s,mine are very similar, tinnitus, pins and needles in hands and feet, low platelets,i also had joint pains in my last year of taking ppi,s.I tried i high dose of ranitidine at one time and ended up with folic and b12 deficiency. All these problems made my mind up that i was going to have surgery which i had 10 weeks ago.So far i have no joint pains, tinnitus but i do still have cold fingers,i was told this could be a side effect of a beta blocker which i take for HOCM. without a doubt ppi,s cause a lot of problems for some people.
