There are many cause of gerds so difficult to attribute only to emotions but around me this was an obvious cause, what do you guys think?

Hello

My manifested itself just after new years during a period when I was/am very stressed at work. Not sure if it was in part a cause of my symptoms, but the ENT did ponder that when asking about my symptoms.

I do know that when I am having a stressful, busy day, my throat does feel more constricted.

Stress can aggrevate GERD but it cant cause the condition.

I'm happy to be corrected if i am mistaken, but GERD cause is from a weak LES valve therefore not enough pressure/control to keep contents in the stomach properly.

The stomach creates positive pressure and the chest creates negative pressure (or vice versa). These equate and cancel eachother out keeping everything in place inside the stomach. When condition exist like a weak LES, this no longer stands hence GERD. Other factors like hiatal hernia attribute to the condition also but again this does not directly cause GERD.

This is a summary of what was explained to me in great detail by my consultant who did my NF and hiatal hernia repair.

How exactly does a H hernia contribute to GERD Then? The protusion through the hiatus interferes with the LES's ability to open/close properly? It puts pressure on the LES?

Thanks

Some of us have gastritis as well though - I don't see how that can be caused by stress or the LES being weak!

It would appear that there are many causes but it is also widely reported that stress can cause constipation and this in turn can be the cause of a hiatus hernia.

I firmly believe that this was the sequence of events in relation to my own HH and subsequent GERD / LPR.

Hey all,

Mine started when I was the happiest I have ever been, hands down. I was, however, overweight and unhealthy.

Now that I have it, when I am stressed it goes away completely. Insane.

Take care all,
Ashley

I hear you, fireworks. I am in a major flareup for about 3 months now because of the stress of my wedding (which is over yet I am still recovering). Every other day is crying at this point.

Hey guys, I'm there with you. Off PPI's for pH monitoring and manometry. I don't really even know what to say to be encouraging at this point except to cherish the good times when they come, and they will :)

Have to admit, the gerd and all that go's with it causes me to battle depession daily. Sometimes I have to dig very deep to smile, the mental toll it takes can be overwhelming.

Here's to sticking it to gerd! Going outside to play with my kids.
