Hi all, first of all I would like everyone that replies to this post to be honest with themselves and dont try and put on a brave face, just let it all out this thread is for those who want to screammmmmmmmmmm AND SHOUT!

I have just got back off holiday(vacation) with my girlfriend for my 30th birthday and all through out the holiday I managed to resist trigger foods and alcohol now this was not to bad as I have been diagnosed with gerd for over a year now and probably had it for about 5 years but did not get serve till last year and I have dealt with my acid reflux demons as such my problem is this....My girlfriend knows I have acid reflux and she has seen how it has effected my life massive weight loss being one of them and yet whilst we were on holiday she kept on asking me if I would like to try a bit of her food and when I said no I got the blank eyes in the back of the head stop moaning your being paranoid STARE and she would say little things like 'common your on holiday or one little bit wont hurt'' but I kept my cool and resisted however when we were in the airport coming home I was really hungry and did not have much choice on what to eat so I thought to hell with it I will eat something naughty as if I am in pain at least I will be in my own bed so I ate an egg salad sandwich and some chocolate bars later big big mistake now I am home I am in agony and I really need to sleep after just getting back from Holland for a week so I ended up shouting at my girlfriend because in a way this was her fault as I know what I can and cant eat I just decided to eat the stuff I cant eat as I was sick of getting blank stares off her all the time so we had an argument and now shes gone it seems she does not understand either as since I have had acid reflux I have lost almost all of my so called friends as I now do not drink and I do not feel the urge to sit around in bars sober and my friends just think its all me being fussy or silly or paranoid or what ever so I have decided to cut most of my friends out, what I have learned since being ill is that you really really are alone in this world, if I had cancer or a terminal illness people would understand but because when I say acid reflux people just think heart burn etc they think I am being a drama queen, I am really struggling to get my head round how I am going to live like this for the rest of my life how ever long that my be which is seeming pretty short the way my health is going, anybody else got any similar stories...........please feel free!

I bumped up a thread titled " Venting - non GERD sufferers getting on my nerves".  I think you will find others get tired of the peer pressure others like to put on you but remember it is your health and you must make the best decisions for you and not bend to the pressure.

Hi there,

To be honest I am not a shouter. I don't get angry visually, however I do get upset in a subtle or calm way. Weird, I know.

Anyways, I can also relate. Last year I left my girlfriend in on my full GERD condition. She was aware of 3 years ago when we started going out, but in 2011 May my symptoms went crazy. I told her and it overwhelmed her. I would complain to her all the time and she was supportive at first, but she later could not handle it. We went through a really bad patch in the fall 2011.

Then I decided I would not tell her anything anymore. I told her, lets have a good time you eat wherever you want, I'll go with you. I told her I will make my own food and take it when we go out and eat. I don't tell her anything and just share here with my fellow GERD sufferers.

She knows I can't eat certain things so I normall choose the restaurants I can eat at. She gets what she wants I get what I want.

Things are ok now between us.
Diagnosed with GERD/IBS in 2007. However, my symptoms are most similar to LPR. I am still unsure of the IBS diagnosis.

Currently I am taking a natural approach to my symptoms since July 2011.

If u decide u don't want to be on ppi consult your doctor, get on a rigid diet ( ex: koufman diet) and ween off very slowly to avoid rebound. Once I heal up in another month I plan to start weening. I'm on a very strict diet and use Manuka honey, alkaline wheat grass capsules and aloe Vera juice. I just started garggling with baking soda and water also.

Fireworks: a little better, still some symptoms such as a mild sore throat(which I did not have until recently), chest pains that i can feel through my back but the stomach pain, and  lump in throat appear to be better. I went to the gyno dr. today and my blood pressure was perfect even though my PPI i take contains sodium bicarbinate and I am on a high dose until June 15. I also am garggling with baking soda which is high in sodium. I guess I did not realize that I was not eating healthy. I also lost another 5 at 110. I am 5'0 tall so that is about right I think.  I hope I dont lose more. When I see the doctor June 15 I am going to see if I am able to have low fat soy cheese, whole grain bread, popcorn, brown rice, oats and quinoa. Dr. Koufman has said these are fine but my doctor wanted me off carbs. That may help put some weight on. When I was there last month he told me to stay on the chicken/turkey/fish/lean meat along with non acidic veggies and fruit. I would like to see if I can have a fat free hot dog or even a tofu vegan hot dog. I need some variation and a sense of normalcy!

5'0 is around 152cm? Your petite! :) im still having phlegm at the back of my throat for the longest time.. it sucks. I still eat my white rice but its just half bowl. Lots of vegetables and soup. I still indulge when I couldn't resist, like buffalo wings. Opps. Having seafood party tonight.. I don't know how m I gonna deal with that :(

I do understand we can never fully recovered from it, so just have to watch what we eat, enjoy in moderation, eat on time, exercise, plenty of rest and less worrying.. I bet that even with GERD/LPR we can still live up to 200years old!
