Hi all,
I hope I can get some advice if anyone else has symptoms similar sorry this post is long.

I was a healthy fit 29 year old worked out most days and have never been ill until a month ago. I had a nasty stomach virus that caused sickness and diarrhoea for 4 days. I was dehydrated and ended up at the docs who put me on fluid IV. Over the next few days I had bad acid reflux, something I have never experienced before. It was coming up into my mouth I would have to spit it out (disgusting). I felt better a week later and went back to the gym. I was fine for a week then I had two episodes where I felt like I couldn’t breathe after my workouts. Doc said I have a bronchial spasm gave me meds.

One episode was so bad that I drove to accident and emergency as I thought I was dying. I really felt like I could not breathe. I think I was having a panic attack at the time but have never had one before. They did some tests and said they thought I might have acid reflux they gave me meds nexium. The following week was awful I had the worst burning in my throat and across my chest it was so bad it made me cry! I felt like I had SOB for a week. I stopped taking the nexium as it makes it feel worse.

Last week I saw the gastro doc who is doing an endoscopy in a few days and testing for h pylori. For the past 10 days I have also had what I thought was a cold but it will not clear up. This morning my nose started to bleed and it’s still bleeding now. I am constantly congested this has caused the head achs. Other symptoms include head pain mostly in the evening, weight loss I have lost 7lbs that I don’t have to lose am 109 lbs now. I am tired all the time I have to go home at lunch to nap. This is out of character I would normally go to the gym at lunch I just feel unwell. I also have a constant burning in my throat.

The doc said I might have H pylori and I believe this is causing all my symptoms. I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem after a stomach virus or have been told they have h pylori. Really looking help I want my old life back!

Hi there,

I never had a stomach virus (knock on wood). However I did have h pylori for a really long time. One thing you did not mention was whether you have stomach burning or ulcer feeling in the stomach. H pylori is often associated with an ulcer.

If they confirm h pylori, they will give 2 antibiotics and a acid reducer for 10-14 days.
That's the protocol.

FYI- not everyone is the same, you may or may not have the bacteria with different symptoms than I. I noticed that we are all different whatever worked for may or may not work for you. And also, I only had bloating, sore throat and still do with and without h pylori.

I tried this approach two times, but it didn't help me.
I did try a natural approach and I've retested and don't have it anymore.

I've dealt with h pylori for years, but glad its gone.
Let me know what the doc says.

Hi thanks for the reply.
I don't have any pain in my stomach only burning in the throat and I don't think I have ulcers. I guess I will find out after my endoscopy on Wed. I am going to refuse any more anti acid drugs they have made me feel worse for a month, and I believe if I do have gerd it is caused by not enough stomach acid and maybe bacterial infection. Hope I will feel better soon.

I hope I don'y have Pylori but at least if I do I will have some answers.

Zantec is an older acid reducer, doesn't shut the acid production system down as much. You could try it, it is avavailable OTC. This is not what you need if you do have a bacterial infection, but something else to try if that turns out to be a dead end. These problems are difficult to sort out, and many docs recommend Nexium or another ppi for everyone. There are other choices.

I never had any problems with the H pylori bacterial infection symptom wise; the only reason I found out about having this stomach bacteria is, I was stressed due to opening a store and the location was bad, I was on a diet, began losing weight rapidly due to stress level and PCP sent me to GI Doctor just to be sure I was ok: I just had a routine Upper GI and Colonoscopy; was told after tests that I had the H pylori infection in my stomach.  I was told that I had to have gotten the bacteria between the ages of 6 - 12 years old from well water or something.  I never had any complications until after treatment.  I was prescribed for two weeks, two high dose antibiotics 1500mg AM/PM and an acid reducer.  After taking all the meds, the next week I came down with an upper respiratory problem that began with a clear drip from my nose.  It lasted for a week or so and went away.  about four weeks down the road, it came back with extreme mucus in the nose, mild sore throat (that didn't last but a day), but the mucus in the nostrils lingered.  I have never had a head cold in my entire life.  I called my PCP, she stated that sometimes antibiotics can lower your immune system, and that more than likely I was suffering from a viral upper respiratory problem.
I am a vocalist who performs frequently and this sinus/upper respiratory infection is causing havoc!!!
Please respond if this happened to you after treatment of the H Pylori Bacterial Infection...
