Any thoughts on how to stop or protect against pepsin and bile? PPI's stop the acid, carafate protects against the bile, so what about the pepsin? I've had a sore throat and pain in my ears for the last week, seems like LPR no doubt. So now what???????

Someone said that Gaviscon Advance deals with Pepsin, you can get it on amazon.com. Dr. Koufmann says that Pepsin needs acid to be activated, so I guess following a low acid diet, eating nothing above a 5 PH I think she says. As far as specific medications, I dont think tehre is any besides the Gaviscon Advance. I plan to check that out.

So ppi's lowering the acid level isn't enough to not active the pepsin? Guess I will have to buy the Kaufman dropping acid book to understand the pepsin thing more. I'm not sure consuming foods above ph 5 is enough? Really...????, I'm I back to square one?

I dont know either, I am on a PPI and am on a resticted diet and I still have some symptoms. Granted they are not as bad but still there. Dr. Koufman says that Pepsin can be activated below a PH of 5, so if you limit your intake of foods that are below a 5, pepsin should not be acitvated. This GERD stuff is really confusing. I am doing everything I am supposed to do and still have some symptoms. They come and go, and change.
