Hey guys!

Sorry for the strange title, I couldn't come up with something better. Anyways, I have no idea if I have GERD or anything because I happened to get my endoscopy order right before the doctor went on holidays so I'm gonna have to wait until the 11th!!

Anyways, I've seen that some people in this forum seem to have experienced the same symptoms as me.

Chest pain (horrible, when I swallow)
Heartburn
Sore throat
Earache (very mild but still there)

And the symptoms are always there!! The doctor gave me Pantoprazole last week to treat it, but I went back today cause I felt no difference! As I said, these symptoms are very annoying, and now I think twice before eating something, and I try to chew a lot to lessen the pain.

I'm a 24 year old male, and I can't sleep thinking that I might have Esophageal Cancer! I know its very unlikely, but I've always been a hypochondriac, I've "had" every disease possible, but still, even hypochondriacs get diseases.

Any similar stories?!?!

It takes a while for the PPI to help. You also need to change your diet significantly(low acid, low fat, low carb, low daity) to see the symptoms lessen. You most likely do not have cancer, you may want to look into deep breathing to help your stress. Stress will make the symptoms worse. I am looking ionto accupuncture for myself.
Diagnosed GERD, no other medical conditions (this one is enough)

Welcome to HealingWell.

Many of us here with health anxiety have had great success with CBT therapy. It involves retraining the negative/fearful thinking that causes our anxieties, into more positive/rational thinking. It can help relieve much of the worry and symptoms that you mentioned in your post.

Those of us with health anxiety are often overly aware of every body sensation, and go on 'red-alert' whenever we feel something is off. The fact is, our bodies are always doing things that we may feel as weird/strange/new...we just react more than the average person who may experience the same things.

I would recommend talking to your doctor about a possible referral to a therapist who specializes in health anxiety and CBT.

Kindly,

Kitt

I agree with the other two posts. You need to deal with your health anxieties. At this point constantly worrying you are only making any gastro issues you have, worse with the added stress that isn't necessary. I've had every symptom you mentioned, dating back five years and often thought I had to have had some form of cancer or dying of heart disease. None of the above has been true. Lower your acid and fat intake, stick with the medicine and wait for your scope. Healing the throat can take months for some folks.
