Hi, I have gerd/lpr but not on any drugs but chinese herbs instead. So far my bloating have eased and I have this persistent globus.. make worse by drinking honey. But these few days I feel like a 'stuff, congested' in my chest.. like the food is stuck in the chest kinda feeling. Very uncomfortable.. it used to be the last 2 nights but today was whole day! I feel like throwing up to feel better, but I m sure there's nothing. Even if I have something coming up.. it doesn't taste acidic.. so is it acid? It's making my chest stuffy to my face..cos have to keep swallowing down but it keeps coming up kind of feeling.. totally awful. I had Macdonalds for last night and this morning.. guilty as charged I m not watching my diet.. but of cos less meat and morevegetables. So is this. A flare up?

I will try my best to help because I know how it is to post something and then no one responds, it is nice to at least try so I will do so.

It sounds to me as if you may need something stronger than herbs and definitely need to change the diet, especially eating at night can be a big mistake. I hate sounding bossy but you should visit your doctor and discuss this with him since trying to do this alone isn't working for you. He/she may be able to get this under control for you with the right medicine. I have silent reflux and I can tell you that you don't always have to feel or taste it in order to have it. It does sound like a flare up and I have had many but eventually got it under control with the help over the counter zegerid and depending on my diet I can still have flare ups. Have you tried anything like that or even something like Gaviscon?

Thanks tinlou for your kind reply. I am not taking any other medications other than Chinese herbs. I did feel better along the way, I do know its my diet that caused my flareup.. I am so ashamed to say that I basically ate anything, acidic or non acidic.. as long as I know I don't overeat. I can get away with it somedays/most days but after MacDonalds.. its terrible... I think I am going to stay off MacDonalds for life.

I don't have a GI doc to talk to.. had not done endoscopy before. Pretty scared to do it..

I understand with gerd, its for life.. somedays I feel miserable with it cos I can't have the quality of life.. I can't enjoy the life I want to.. I can't enjoy the day feeling bad with gerd/lpr..its affecting my life, my family.. But on a positive note, gerd makes us more aware of our own health..

I really appreciate this forum. I feel better talking to you ppl who understands how I feel.. thank you so much.

Even though GERD seems to be a life long issue that we must try to keep under control, I will tell you that it is possible to do so and to have a really good quality of life at the same time. If you get your symptoms under control with diet and possibly medication, you will definitely be able to have many good days. There will be some not-so-good days because none of us are perfect but you will eventually feel much better.

I would suggest you try to find a doctor, even a family doctor to help you with this since trying it on your own is becoming difficult for you. I tried to do it on my own too but eventually caved and went to my doctor about the symptoms. Try to figure out your trigger foods, obviously fried, greasy foods are bad but so is chocolate, alcohol and of course really spicy foods as is eating late at night.
I hope this helps a bit so you know you are not alone here. Having GERD doesn't mean your life should be miserable.
