I am on 80mg Protonix daily. I have tried all the other PPI's and none is better than the other. Is 80mg the max dose or would it be more effective if I upped the dose? Thanks.

I have read about a 4x/day dose of Omeprazole 20mg. 20mg/day is normal, 2x a day is double dose.

Don't know how 20mg of protonix compares to 20mg of Omeprazole, but if you can find that, you may have an answer.

When you take them is important also, they should be taken 30 mins before a meal which is needed to activate the proton pumps.

You need to discuss dose changes with your GP/ PCP or GI Cons. We cannot suggest dosages on the forum, we can only compare what each other takes! Sometimes Zantac is added in - again you need to talk this through with your own doctor(s).

If you've reached the stage where you are maxed out PPI wise, is it perhaps time to consider surgical options?

New stuff: GERD, Recurrent cystitis/Overactive bladder
Lifelong stuff: Food allergies/intolerance, eczema, asthma

First off thank you so much for your responses. I understand it is a extremely difficult situation and a appreciate all the help I can get.

My doctors thinks the acid is due to my Gastroparesis. While I'm trying to get GP meds to work I was hoping I could find away to keep the burning under control till GP meds hopefully work. I just didnt know if going about 80mg would help any more than my current situation.

I believe that 40mg Protonix twice a day is considered maximum.  When I was on it, my PCP (and my asthma doc concurred) 300mg Ranitidine (Zantac) was added at bedtime, and for a time my asthma doc had me taking it in the morning as well.
It is quite common for GI docs to supplement the PPI with Zantac.
Good luck getting relief!

Max Dose: That what I figured.

However I didn't know about supplementing the PPI's, I will ask him at my next visit if things continue to be status quo.

Sorry you have asthma, my mother has it too. I'll never forget the first night she had it and we didn't know what was going on, I was ready to panic. Fortunately its under control now, I hope yours is too.
