Hello everyone,
My new GI doctor is sending me for a battery of tests because he "does not understand why I am still having symptoms at my age (29), while on a GERD diet and medication". I guess I am happy that he is thinking outside the box. He is having me tested for Celiac Disease, ordered a Chest X ray and ultra sound of the abdomen, as well as a gastric emptying study. I am starting to get a little nervous that he is sending me to all these tests. I always thought it was just GERD. He also suggested the PH study and Mametry test after these which I know I need. He gave me samples of Dexilant 60mg that I am going to try and Aciphex which I tried years ago. He said he is mainly doing this because my endoscopy only showed mild esoophogitus from reflux and I am reporting difficult symptoms. He said it does not add up.
Anyone have a similar experience? I am trying not to get stressed about this. He is concerned because I have lost a lot of weight because I have been on a strict diet of fruits, vegestables and protein. I am concerned too.

Hi Erica,

I think I am headed in the same direction as am having some serious issues with PPI side effects, regardless of which they never properly gave me relief. I sympathise because my symptoms far outweigh the mild inflammation etc that they found. I started acupuncture, thinking I needed to tackle it from a different angle, and so as to help any hidden stress or emotional factors that I might not be aware of. Last week I found out my anaemia is worse, so now I have to revisit the GI cons - pretty much the last thing I wanted to do!! Tests are my biggest fear - not the results, just the tests!!

New stuff: GERD, Recurrent cystitis/Overactive bladder
Lifelong stuff: Food allergies/intolerance, eczema, asthma

Big breath and let out the stress.  You are feeling normal for anyone who is head down the path of testing but know that it is a good thing as you do want to know what is going on and if you could have something else causing your symptoms ?
I believe many of our members have had more tests than they can count.  I have not had a lot of testing for my GERD but have gone through many tests for other things and some of the tests were not fun but I did find out I was pretty dang healthy in the end.
Thinking of you my friend.

Thanks for the support. I am more afraid for the results than the tests (well at least for these ones. The PH and Mamertry look scary). I just fear that they will find more issues and I really can't deal with one more issue with my health right now. Luckily the pain I am in now is more mild and allows me to function. But as soon as I deviate from the plan (ex: my uncle's wedding) I am in pain. Dr. says that is not "normal" while on medicaton. I don't know. I am not sure how I feel about the Dr. yet but at least he is sending me for more testing. I have only been through the endoscopy and a few ultra sounds for other reasons in the past.

I did years ago when this all started. Nothing reported then. I think it will be part of the ultrasound.

I started having reflux at 21 it has been better and worse, up and down since then. A few months ago it got the worst it's been which led me to dramatically change my diet. 2 endoscopies showed same thing one had when it started and one a few months ago.
