Hi all
I've been suffering from gerd for almost 10 months now, started on omeprazole then lanzoprazole, the omaprazole worked intially but since then have had no real relief from my symptoms. The last 2 months I've been taking Reglan for 2 months now which stopped the chest pain but come back was still left with the sore throat aspect, my sore throat has eased quite alot since i've been eating more fruit and veg but have been left with stomach and chest pain which is there most of the day. I have come off the reglan and replaced it with Dompremide because I was feeling very depressed and tired when I took them. I feel I'm quite close to a answer but need extra help. The doctors want to put me back on a ppis which I'm very reluctant to do so as I has so many problems with and then took me ages to ween myself off. grateful for any advice given thanks.

Hi there, welcome to Healingwell,

The first thing to do is to make sure your investigations are complete - has coeliac disease, Helicobacter and diabetes been ruled out? Have you had an endoscopy?

Once those things are done you can ask them to reconsider your medication - can you have a higher dose of Omeprazole, can you add Zantac on top etc etc

When you've exhausted the medication route you may want to consider dietary changes - some people do well going vegan, doing the Koufman diet or just losing weight (if appropriate).

Don't put up with symptoms that don't respond to medication - keep knocking on your doctor's door for answers!
