How long does Prilosec need to be taken to repair the esphogus? I've read that it can take up to 6 months, but the Prilosec says to only take it for 14 days, and then you must wait 3 months before starting another 14 day treatment.
So when someone says it can take up to 6 months, do they mean you need to take it every day for 6 months, or that you do three 14 day treatments, 3 months apart?
I'm just confused as to how much you can take or need to take. Thanks.

Hi there,

Sorry about the lack of responses. Unfortunately this is a very difficult question to answer as it depends on the grade of esophagitis that you have (grades A-D). Even if you provide that info, it would still vary depending on what else you do (I.e., what acidic foods you're avoiding, etc). I would personally ask my doctor since it seems you're following a care plan of some sort.

Sorry about the unclear answer. Hope it helps!

Hi jgk 381, i can only tell you of my experience with esophagitis as everyone heals or responds differently to medication.I had esophagitis which was bad enough for me to end up in hosital, thought i was having a heart attack.Anyway i was put on 80 mg of nexium and 300 mg ranitidine at bedtime and it took about 3 months to feel anyway normal again, then the dose was reduced to 40mgs nexium, overall it took 6 months to feel better.I think you need to take advice from a GI consultant about what ppi to take and what dosage. Hope you get it sorted! Barry
