38m, 160lbs, fit. I have a fragile stomach, always have. I know most of my triggers and avoid them. For the most part I get indigestion 2-3 times a month and that is when I over indulge with coffee or beer. Otherwise, wife is a vegetarian so I follow her lead and generally eat healthy. So two weeks ago I over indulge. Before this I am fine for a while. I go to town and have pizza, a coffee and a brownie. Yea the trifecta of what I should NOT do. I was on my own with wife and kid away and just enjoying the city. So I get home and have indegestion which I half expected but this time I can't kick it. Over the counter losec 10mg was always my silver bullet. I would pop a losec, some gaviscon and be fine for a month. Nothing would help. At this time I was also under quite a lot of stress (we just moved, job stress etc). So lots of gaviscon, and 10mg losec 2x a day I figure ok 2 days I'll be ok. No good. I have pain beneath my sternum which after another day spreads to middle of my chest behind my sternum, gnawing pain I've never had. Shortness of breath. 3 doc visits later and heart check ups (heart is fine), doc has me on 40mg omeprazole once a day. I hate drugs, don't want to be on this at all but it has helped -not 100% though. The chest pain and heartburn is gone but I have acidy feeling deep in my throat. I'm not in much pain, just this acidy feeling and slightly sore below the adams apple because of this feeling. The doc says a specialist will phone me "soon" and arrange an endoscopy. I haven't heard back yet. It's been over a week since seeing the doc and I don't feel like I'm making much progress. Yesterday seemed the best day, and today seems not so good. Meanwhile I am maintaining a strict acid reflux diet which I thought might get me back to normal. Mostly steamed veggies and bland stuff. I am trying slippery elm tea, aloe vera capsules, vitD, B12, magnesium, black strap molasses. I am thinking of trying some licorice dgl. I just don't get it, never have I had an issue like this. It makes me feel like I have a haital hernia? or maybe the stress fired off an ulcer? Maybe a sudden h.pylori? The doc wouldn't seem to comment much just gave me 40mg omeprazole. I have been supplementing a bit at night with gaviscon. I have raised my bed so I sleep on a slope. It just doesn't make sense how I can be fairly stable then all of a sudden have this loooooong issue. Most I ever had to deal with was 2 days for heartburn to go away and feel better and it was a very different sensation to what I have now. I guess at this point all I can do is hope for the best and be thankful I am not in agony like some are.

Glad to find this group. The stress of having this is probably not helping it either. I try to be calm and breathe. I go on an hour walk every day. Anyway, I feel I am doing all I can but it just won't go away. Looking forward to the endoscopy and hope I don't have to wait a month. Thanks for listening.

I think its the progression of reflux. I was fine one day, then the next day full blown GERD. I did over do it with soda and alcohol, but prior to that, I had occasional heart burn from not eating well (I had just graduated from college and was celebrating by eating and drinking whatever I wanted). Get the endoscopy and see what is going on. I also am on Nexium 40mg and I have to use Gaviscon at night also. I still get mild symptoms and I am currently going through all the tests I should have done but was too scared to do years ago. Try chewing non mint gum that helps me a lot.
Diagnosed GERD, no other medical conditions (this one is enough)

I need some help, I don't have insurance, im 35m about 190lbs, For several years I've had this feeling like air is caught in my throat/chest, so I try to push it out and instead end up spitting up or throwing up in mouth, then when I do push the air out it feels like I swallow it back at the same time so I do it again for sometimes hours on end where my throat starts hurting, I don't know what this could be but I seriously need some help, it's extremely uncomfortable and irretating and don't know what to do.  If any body does please let me know.
