Hello all, I am scheduling a wrap and hiatal hernia repair for mid Oct. I have concerns about restrictions. I am 57 and in good physical condition, save this LPR. I go to gym regular and lift weights. I am 5'9'" and weigh 170, so I am wondering if anyone else around my weight can tell me how much weight they lost, and how long did they have to wait to get back into the gym, and what were the restrictions. I really don't have much weight to lose. While on liquid and soft food, what can I drink to slow down weight loss? How long before you could be back to your normal work out. Don't get me wrong, I am not a big weight lifter, just like to stay in shape. My Gastro doc told me failed wraps usually occure when you lift too much too early, usually in the first 4 weeks. Any info appreciated. Thanks...

You will need to talk to your surgeon about this, because not all HH repairs are the same. On my first one, the doctor did a simple suture repair to the diaphragm, and I was told no more than 25 lbs of lifting for 3 months, and then back to normal activity.

On the second one, the surgeon did a large mesh repair, and I was put on a 10 lbs restriction for 3 months, and a lifetime restriction of 25 lbs. (No word on what third repair will bring -- I figure I will find out when I wake up.)

It depends on what type of repair your surgeons opts for.

Wow, third time!  Did your wrap also fail, or just hernia repair?
