While I have on occasion had daytime reflux, my main problem is reflux at night while sleeping. I've done the usual things; raised the head of my bed (by placing several pieces of 2X4 under the legs of the bed), I usually sleep on my left side, try not to eat too late, etc... and yet I wake up with an acid taste in my mouth every night. Are there others who suffer mostly at night? Is there any wisdom you can share with me?

Do you feel you still have food in your stomach when waked up? If you have done the usual things: slanted bed, light dinner 4 hours before sleep, etc., you can try taking some meds at bedtime. Zantac, graviscon suspension, or carafate.

I don't feel like I have food in my stomach; and even when I was taking 2x per day nexium and ranitidine in the evening, I still woke up with irritated throat symptoms.

I see you are on a very heavy dosage of acid suppressants. In your case, it is considered refractory GERD - simply means you have found no relief from medication. Definitely you should let your doc know.

Are you taking Nexium at the correct timing, that is 30mins before your meal? Are you following a GERD diet?

Ok you can also try taking Ranitidine at bedtime, instead of in the evening. It can make a difference sometimes.

try taking you last meal at 5pm...

i usually finish my last meal around 3pm. (only have 2 meals a day)

seems to work well for me.. try gradually to get your last meal to 5pm.. if you have issues doing it abruptly...
