Just an update: It is now month number 6 of me on the GERD diet and thankfully, it seems to be working. I am not cured, I still have minor pain but I have made progress. I thought I would share with people what has worked for me.

Gluten Free: I am done with wheat. I will have gluten free brown rice pasta once a week with olive oil. I can tolerate  brown rice so I can eat that and products made from brown rice as well (wraps, pasta, chips). I am able to tolerate Oats as well and they make some good granola.

Chicken, Turkey, fish, lean meat: This makes up a lot of my diet

Red potatoes: Delicious and not a problem

Veggies: Broccoli, peas, carrots, lettuce, string beans

Fruit: Melons, bananas, apples

Almonds, Almond butter and Almond Milk: You can substitute with this and make  a lot of different dersserts. My husband has made me banana "ice cream" with almond milk, bananas and honey. I also put alomnd butter on a brown rice gluten free wrap and that was a "peanut butter sandwitch".

Chewing Gum, bed wedge, B12 1000 mg, calcium, vitamin d 1000mg, magnesium 500mg, omega 3 fish oil. Water, water and more water.

I may have left a few things out but this is the gist of it. The only thing I really miss is cheese (I can tolerate some fat free mozzarella in small amounts), alcohol, and candy lol. There are a lot of substitutes for things out there.

I m having fish oil but its big so I m afraid to swallow so I chew it.. is its ok? It's entric coated.. and I have calcium mag pill which is so big I have to crush into powder and drink..

After every meals, I have digest gold enzymes.

Still having globus in throat thou... I m thinking its caused by post nasal drip. So going for the acupuncture for it..

Yes, taking nexium 40 mg for now. Hoping I can ween off at some point but not until I'm feeling good over a decent span of time. Chewing gum has eliminated my globus

That's great, I think the globus was your most bothersome symptom. Finding your personal solution is such a puzzle!

Globus was annoying, but the worst was the esophageal spasms they were horrific! Now I just have floating chest pains and some stomach irritation. All mild. I can't believe it has taken 6 months to make progress.

Hi Ericapeace,

I have not posted in a while because I have nothing to contribute :(

I actually tried the gluten free diet for a year per my Naturopathic doctor. I really learned so much about food. I cut out everything that included gluten. I cut out all processed food, sugar and fruits.

My diet once consisted of brown rice, rice cakes, almond butter, oven roasted chicken, beans, salads, avocados, brown rice ceral, sugarless almond milk, gluten free bread, goat cheese, unprocessed ham/turkey. Unprocessed hot dogs, tky burgers and unprocessed mayonaise.

The results? Not much, to tell you the truth. I lost a lot of weight, although I did not need to.

I am currently trying to gain weight by eating some of the foods I avoided for a while like cheeses, some breads, and other foods.

I am not taking any PPI at all. I am taking DGL, Seacure, Mastic Gum, Vitamin C and eat blueberries everyday. I also take black raspberry capsules.

This shows that we are all different. I don't feel worse or better. However, gaining weight has been tough.

There are foods I still avoid any Italian food, greasy food, processed food (I try), fruits, minimize sugar, although I have been eating more of it the last month. I am also eating out a little more than I use to.

My plan is to get a new job and good insurance once I get it. Then treat it by getting all tests done. For now I am trying to gain weight to try to tackle the problem a different way. I want to gain muscle and weight to use some natural products that require a strict diet for a period of 4-6 weeks to help me.

I am happy for you though. I need to get into a regimen again....

Getting into a regime is hard but once you get into one, it becomes easier. It sucks that I have to plan my life around food and food prep but there is no other choice for me. I also lost a lot of weight but I have stabilized now and try to eat the foods to help keep weight on like the red potatoes. My goal is to be able to ween down to zantac by the year mark of this regime (March 2013). However, I realize that I really can not plan that far ahead with GERD because at any day things can change. I think my husband is getting a little annoyed with me because everytime we are going away, I have to prepare food or figure out where I will be able to eat. He understands but I just think it gets to him sometimes and I don't blame him. We used to enjoy resturaunts and bars together but that has had to change. My friends are starting to try and do things with me that does not require food and alcohol, but it took a while for them to also accept the changes. Occasionally I hope to be able to have a rum and water and I plan to have one on my 30th birthday, the first drink I have had in 4.5 months. Overall, I have learned a lot and have explored alternative food choices. As I said, I just miss being able to have a few drinks, cheese, and candy. In the long run, these are not that good for me anyways, but maybe every so often I will be able to have a small amount.

I take citrical petites (calcium) as it was recomended by doctor. The papaya enzymes also have calcium carbonate in them and those are taken 3 times a day after meals. I have recently added L-glutamine and a clay mineral suppliment to my regimen so we will see how it goes. I also take gavison at night.
