Like many of you I have a lot of belching, especially after eating and drinking. Although I am still not to keen on belching in public ( I.e outside of friends and family) I have progressively got more accustomed to it and no longer care so much, so what has this done?

1. I am sure some belches are over 75 Db
2. I feel a lot better when I belch
3. My kids find it funny ( wife not so impressed though)
4. I can make different noises

Do not get me wrong it is not something I am proud of but I do feel better and have medical justification when I get disapproving looks.

Anyhow with my Nissen just over 3 weeks away it is a short lived freedom, I guess the gas is not something I will be so keen to express. skull

I used to rock the house with my belches before the surgery. I only belch now when I drink a soda. It sounds like a frog croaking now. My niece gets tickled when I do it.

I like the ones that seem to go on forever and finish with an Aaaah

I have more problems with my esophagus rumbling and, like Joy, making croaking noises. I was in a job interview and my throat rumbled like someones stomach would, and I couldn't help but be self-conscious about it.

I wonder why I have the croaking as well, if I haven't had the surgery or any structural changes.

I get a gurgling noise that comes from top of eosophegeos area without an actual belch. It is most prominent when lying down or when relaxed. I had this for years even before first Nissen. Like a drain emptying.

I had burping and belching badly when my GERD first kicked off, even on medication. My two young sons took it as an open contest.

Apart from trying to stop the kids copying, I don't care too much and if with friends I would just say "I'm sorry, my stomach is bad today".

I've never worked out where the gas comes from though. It's usually worst if I have nausea.

PS: Helicobacter causes some serious belching - make sure you've been tested if you burp a lot!!

Well, now I'm really confused.  I posted the topic about my TIF surgery and how I never used to have this belching & gas problem until AFTER my surgery.  I guess it's a question for the doctor as to why the surgery created a problem that people usually get with reflux BEFORE they have surgery.

I have never understood the belching but what I do know is it's fact of gerd and I feel better about it now I am not concerned. The post was meant as a bit of fun but yes it does highlight issues but hopefully in a lighthearted way.

Happened upon this site, by accident. But hope I can find help. After reading the posts regarding excessive belching. Was shocked that, most think it is funny, and seem to pass it off with some cute andedote. I have dealt with gerd, achalasia, hh for over 25 years. I literally have belching attacks, some so bad, can't get my breath. Gastro doc nor reg. doc seem to help, I've had the botox treatment twice for achalasia, helps for about 6months. take sub. drugs for gerd, i've taken eveything known . i've stopped all soda's, little coffee or tea, but the belching continues to rage on. does anyone have any serious resource paths for me?

I am so confused ... my TIFF surgery has failed - I have graduallyh gotten worse and worse and now it's worse than it was before the procedure.  Why I'm confused is because I didn't have ANY belching or burping problem before the surgery --  after my hiatal hernia repair and the TIFF the belching started right after surgery and now is so bad no matter what I eat.  Can anyone please explain why this happened after the repair?
