I have a type 4 paraesophageal hernia, with the entire stomach and part of the colon up into my chest. I have been waiting for a call back from Dr James Luketich's office and I received it today. His assistant called and talked to me for a long time. I feel very confident that this is the right place and the right doctor. My case is pretty rare, as he explained to me today. Because I have very few symptoms, I was thinking I could get this surgery done after the holiday's, yet after talking with him today, I think I will try to get it within the next month or so (they are scheduling at least 6 weeks out). He explained that they would be doing a loose wrap on me, due to my specific case, and they may end up having to use a mesh, though that is not preferred. Oh, I hope they don't have to! They may even need to do a Collis. Since I am out-of-state, I will need to stay in Pittsburgh for at least 10 days following surgery. I am scared, but feel good about the surgeon, and believe that it will all work out. Words of encouragement are always appreciated:-)
