Hello Fellow GERD Sufferers:

I just wanted to share my experience of going to an amusement park for an entire day. I made sure I packed a cooler bag of food because I was not sure there would be anything for me to eat there. And I was right. There is NOTHING for people who have food restrictions. In this day in age, it is shocking to me that there is absolutely nothing healthy at all at these places. Luckily i was able to talk to security and they allowed me to bring my food into the park.

I did not want to go because of the GERD issue but I went because 1. I have to live my life still and 2. My husband has been complaining that we have not done much since my GERD flare up and we got free tickets. I was able to make it through and I did have some fun, but it was just a huge hassel with the food thing. Other people just do not understand that a simple day at an amusement park is anxiety and stress provoking for people with GERD.  My husband helped cook and pack food for me, but I felt bad that I had to stop and eat through the day and wasted money on lockers to store the cooler bag. I know that there is nothing I can do about the fact that I have GERD, it just really stinks sometimes.

Erica,
I get anxious for you just reading your post. Last time I went to Disney Land I hand the same thought about the food. Unless you go to one of their super expensive restaurants, you have no chance if you have GERD. The massive corn hogs are probably the worst for me (but they sure are good!).

I went to Vegas for a wedding this weekend and was anxious about what having a flare up the whole weekend too. There wasn't enough room in my car for my wedge (subject for another post) either so I couldn't bring it. Fortunately I had enough will power (and choices) to stay away from anything that would've kept me up all night. We were usually up walking a ton after meals which I felt helped.

Good to know that Disney Land will let you bring food in.

My gerd hit in February and we already had a trip planned to Disney in March. Only fast food was available without a reservation. We did stay on grounds and I brought along some edibles, and found a few things in the hotel convenience store. I have never been anywhere else that had poorer food choices, absolutely no healthy choices in the amusement parks.

It is absolutely ridiculous. The park was Six Flags, not Disney, but I am sure it is the same for all of them. I was set to eat in the parking lot in my car, I was not going to make myself ill because of the lack of common sense of these parks. It is not just GERD, people with Celiac, food allergies, IBS, Chrohn's, diabetes...there are multiple disorders that require diet restrictions. I guess us "sick" people are not supposed to have any fun or be social.

Six Flags, huh? Magic Mountain? if their food doesn't mess up your stomach, the roller coasters certainly will :). My stomach definitely can't handle roller coasters like it used to.

I only went on one "real" coaster, there were 2 others that were smaller that I did go on. Not my thing any ways, I like the things that spin. All in all, I did survive but it wore me out emoitonally. When you are in a place where you can't control anything and you are stranded, it is really hard. Plus, the temptation...all of the delicious junk food I used to love is staring me in the face at every turn. I probably will not go to another park for a while.

I get this completely. I have gone to a few amusement parks and its been tough. I usually bring my own food. And to think that some people eat that way pretty consistently, its actually disgusting to think about.

Yeah, I agree. I just am in shock that there are not even salads available.

One day my husband found me a cellophane package of grapes for lunch, that was the big victory. Yes, it is disgusting. Until I visited there I thought the world of ready-to-eat food had moved beyond this.

It just baffles me that with all the food allergies and disorders out there that a huge public place does not think to take this into consideration. I bet a lot of people avoid going to these parks because of this very reason.
