I have found for myself, that if I eat what causes my heartburn that I pay the price so I do not think you can avoid giving up some foods for no heartburn.

I  love spicy foods and thick creamy frozen custard shakes but I have learned the hard way that I can almost guarantee I will have heartburn along with reflux.

Capsaicin in spices/chili/pepper is known to trigger acid secretion in stomach. But it also helps to improve the blood flow in stomach and strengthen the mucosa. So it helps to prevent gastric ulcer / gastritis, but it is bad to acid reflux patients. I suggest you lower the quantity of the spices in your cooking to a tolerable level. If there isn't any, i think you just have to give up spicy food.

Is tumeric spicy? I know its supposed to be good for reflux...actually, Nickles just posted an article where its benefits are considered. Maybe using it could be acceptable to you?

spicey food is a killer for reflux. Try toning it down and see if it makes a difference.
