Hello, all,

Just want to inform you of a very unheard of nervous system disorder called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). I have it and was finally diagnosed last year after having six years of baffling issues and countless appointments. Primarily, POTS causes rapid heart rate and dizziness. Other symptoms can include: fainting, low or high blood pressure, blood pooling in the legs, gastro issues, heat intolerance, exercise intolerance, fatigue, etc., all resulting from the body's inability to adjust to the pull of gravity.

I joined this site to try to help others and to spread awareness. I have come across many people who have both POTS and GERD, so I feel it is important to share this information.

I won't go on and on, as I realize it is possible none of you have POTS. Just keep this information in mind, and feel free to message me with any questions, or just to chat.

Thank you, and best wishes to you all!

Madamebrianne, It is possible that members with GERD may have a secondary condition but I have not heard that POTS goes hand in hand with GERD. However, POTS is a fairly newly recognized disorder.

If anyone in the forum has GERD and POTS, please do share your story with us.
Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is one of a group of disorders that have orthostatic intolerance  as their primary symptom. The primary symptom of  orthostatic intolerance is lightheadedness or fainting. In POTS, the lightheadedness or fainting is also accompanied by a rapid increase in heartbeat of more than 30 beats per minute, or a heart rate that exceeds 120 beats per minute, within 10 minutes of rising. The faintness or lightheadedness of POTS are relieved by lying down again. Anyone at any age can develop POTS, but the majority of individuals affected (between 75 and 80 percent) are women between the ages of 15 to 50 years of age.

Yes I too have pots. I've had it for 4 years. My GI thinks that might be the reason my nissens keep coming undone. Pots can mess with every body function from head to toe. Most people with pots also have nerve issues. My GI and Neuro think that might be connected to my GI problems. It's so nice to hear someone else has this condition. From my understanding there isn't much known about pots as far as treatments go. I've been bouncing from specialist to specialist for the last 3 years trying to figure things out and it's still a mystery.

I am glad to see this post! Not glad that you are ill, of course, but glad to know someone can relate. If you don't mind my asking, where are you located?

Feel free to message anytime! I wish you all the best.
