First off, thanks to you all for posting your stories - this site has been so helpful to me lately! I am a 28 year old female, born with GERD but it wasn't fixed at the time and I have had pretty limited treatment. I have taken Protonix but it kept me up at night, and Omeprazole helps short-term but it always seems to come back.
Symptoms are: fairly constant burning sensation (though this does improve some depending on how well I'm eating), sore throat and sour taste each morning, and chronic sinus problems. I had a laryngoscopy a few years back and was told there is a granuloma on my larynx due to acid.
I saw my doc last week and reported that I'm having daily problems (not currently taking any meds) and he referred me to a GI doc for an endoscopy and suggested surgery may be the best option for me. The endoscopy is scheduled for the 5th, and I was just wondering - if it is determined that I'm a good candidate for surgery, I know there will be a few more tests first, but what will the timeline look like? If I do have to have the procedure, I'd rather try to do it in December because I'm currently a graduate student and want to do it during my break from classes to minimize interruption. Is that realistic, or is it likely that the tests/scheduling/etc. will take longer? How long was it for you from the first appointment/test to the surgery date?
Thanks for any insight!
