I had a lung infection before, during, and after my surgery, and my lungs didn't improve until the two and a half month mark post-op. As Joy said, as long as you don't have a fever you should be just fine. Of course, ask your surgeon's office if you're worried.
I worried that my severe and nearly constant coughing would damage my wrap, but it didn't. They're stronger than you think! If your cough persists after the surgery, use a pillow to hold your stomach still while you cough. Ice on the left/rib area incision helps with that cough-created pain.
Good luck with your surgery!
Stick around...this is a great place for information and support.
