Exercise post-LNF

I am a newbie to the forum. I wish that I had discovered it sooner since I am scheduled for a LNF in two days and I have learned many things from others on the forum. (Mostly I have learned that the recovery is more involved than I expected. eyes )

One thing I am concerned about is the length of time from the surgery until I am able to resume my normal activities. I am a skier, hiker, backpacker, and a sailor. I also work out in a gym three days a week on an elliptical and do sit ups and some minor weight lifting. Typically, when can I expect to get back to my normal activities?

Along the same lines, when (if ever) can I not focus on my wrapped stomach and resume a normal per-LNF diet? Is a beer with friends still in my future?

You have to go through a slow phasing in from liquids to solid foods.
For the first 14 days you will slowly swell inside at the wrapped site making swallowing tricky. It will reduce about the same rate.
I was told no carrying anything heavier than 5 lbs for six weeks. Then slowly increase activity listening to my body, stopping if any discomfort.
Walking will be allowed from day one. I'd hold off on sit ups until the third month. The eliptical will need to wait until end of second month IMHO.

I'm not a drinker so someone else will have to chime in there.

I am on my 10th week of recovery. Pre LNF I was going to the gym for weights and running 3 times a week. I have not gone to the gym yet, I did run 2 miles at week 8 and started golfing at week 6. Everyone heals differently, so you just have to re-introduce the activities slowly and see what your body tells you.
I have a friend that went to the gym at week 8 and almost tore his wrap lifting weights. I do not think it is wise to do any heavy lifting of weights until after 3 months perhaps more, start slowly.
As for drinking, I had a beer at 7 and a half weeks and went down well, two days later I had two beers :-)
Beer just fills me up faster and I am unable to drink anymore than 2. I have switched to drinks on the rocks, definetly do not add soda.

Thanks for the responses. That is kind of what I expected, but it is nice to have confirmation. I have a ski trip planned for next President's Day weekend and hopefully I will be ok by then.

Having owned a microbrewery in the past I am definitely going to miss the beer. I'll just have to make them good ones.

I am 7 weeks into post op for LNF and I tried hoovering yesterday and it really hurt me! So I will leave off that for another week to see how it goes then. I do a lot of lifting and pulling, bending up and down and stretching in my job so I am still off work as I would not be able to do the job at the moment!
still can feel I have wind trapped in the esophagus which is annoying and bloats me - any tips on getting rid of it as I can not burp?
hmmm I may try a alcoholic beverage soon as that sounds nice :-)
