Hi all
I am hoping that someone can help shed some light on this situation. about this time last year, I had a severe GERD/LPR flare that led to significant swelling in my throat (saw Jamie Kaufman) that impacted my swallowing. I actually could not swallow solids for weeks. With TONS of PPIs, Gaviscon from the UK, I did slowly improve and weaned off meds in the spring--symptom free.

This past October my GERD/LPR flared again--lots of gurgling in the chest, chest pressure, sore throat, etc. So immediately went back on 60mg Dexilant, 300 Zantac, Gaviscon as needed. You know the drill. I saw the GI who said to do an endoscopy , saw the ENT (throat looks decent right now) and also had a 24 hour holter monitor (was getting some skipped beats , which Kaufman says can happen due to vagus nerve issues with GERD/LPR), had 2 EKGS, and an echo stress test--all which came out normal.

Anyway, I was feeling better, but then noticed the "chest pressure" came back. It's not extreme. It is up and down my entire sternum and throat. When I get my silent hiccups or throat gurgles it might dissipate for a few minutes, but does return. My question is...why? I have not tapered off at all! My refluxing actually feels less intense than it was. I called the GI a few days ago, but have not had any response yet. I could call the cardiologist, but I just saw him in early november.

Does this pattern of better/worse with no med change make sense?
Thanks...

Hi Belljar1995,
You poor soul. No fun having chest pressure with pain. It is good you are getting it checked out by your Doctors. Could your symptoms being flared up by the Holiday foods and activities of stress from this time of year? I hope you find out what is triggering your symptoms to solve them quickly.
Best wishes.
Anne :-)

Thanks Anne. I've actually lost weight during Thanksgiving as that weekend I was still recovering from the more intense symptoms that I had previously. Just wondering why the chest pressure has returned--usually steady meds and good diet would get rid of it...fairly quickly!!

so I broke down tonight and went to the urgent care clinic for my chest pressure as it has been almost non stop for several days and only seems OK in the morning when I first wake up. It is really driving me NUTS. The physician was really nice and not at all dismissive--seemed concerned that my meds were not working or that possibly something other than reflux. So I had an EKG which was normal and he did some blood work (i think caridac enzymes, regular chemistry, cbc and amylase/lipase) which he said should be back tomorrow. Of course if chest pain worsens I'm to come back or go to ER.

My question is--does anyone else have chest pressure (not severe heartburn pain) in the sternum that sometimes goes to the throat. What helps it? I've tried everything-- gaviscon, my PPIs, zantac. It's driving me nuts.
