I am on day 6 of a new prescription from my doctor: 30mg of Dexilant once a day.  I feel a little better but still getting some heartburn, and I still get that feeling like food is getting stuck in my throat.  Everytime I feel something I worry.  I just want to feel NORMAL again!  rolleyes Any thoughts?  Thanks!

It sucks. usually a week is a good amount of time for PPIs to kick in. Call your doctor and report insufficient control of the symptoms--there is more that can be done--either adding H2 blockers, antacids (like Gaviscon) or increasing the dose or changing the timing of the meds. Especially bring up the swallowing issue (and call it that so you can get the attention to the issue).

It is definitely better, and when I do get the heartburn it goes away much faster. I told my GP about the feeling of little pills and such getting stuck sometimes. I think that's why she gave me Dexilant. It's not always, and sometimes it just feels like mucous that's getting stuck. Unfortunately, I think I'm analyzing every twinge I feel and stressing myself out. Not good I know.

yes, I am with you, I joined this post because I need to see if im going crazy or if have something wrong. I have had high anxiety and panick for the last couple months. i dont have a thyroid but get checked regularly. Now I have the worst gerd i ever had. Pressure , sometimes pain between the breast bone and sometimes it last all day. im on 20mg of omerprozale. but started taking 40 on my own. I feel like I wanna burp up food but nothing comes up and then as well as me I start to panick and have major anxiety..its not a pleasant feeling, I have no real heartburn now just discomfort sometimes sharp pain and pressure in the chest . bit lower than between my breast...scares me. I have been to a cardiologist the first part of this year and his conclusion was s/p hypo or hyper. when I get my levels. checked they are normal..my thryoid levels..I even get palps and flutters since i have had my thryoid out in 08. Im losing my mind it seems. Im going to another cardiologist this friday for an echo. im sure its just me, but if i am told my heart is ok..i hopefully wont have the anxiety anymore.. I get these attacks at work.then when my gerd or what it may be that im feeling i almost feel like I have to go home because i cant function with panic anxiety and the pressure of gerd and little chest pains..Thanks for reading....and any answers would be great.

Oneazgurl - I've got similar issues... They last about a month at a time and I'm entirely miserable during that span. How did everything get resolved?

My doctors have always advised me that PPIs take about a week to really kick in. Unless I was having particularly severe symptoms, they were hesitant to change the PPI type or dosage until I gave them a week to work.

Having said that though, I needed 60 mg Dexilant twice a day for symptom control when it was bad.
