Dear all, I am Nabin from Korea..I have been suffering from GERD since 3 years..I was controlling it through medications when i was in Nepal.(My native place is Nepal). Now here in Korea,i am having difficulties to manage my GERD, for the reason that the Korean food is all meaty and acidic, which trigger my GERD.Nowadays i m feeling pressure n burning in chest.Sometime i feel it on my back.Further, i feel like my heart is not working properly n sometimes i feel skips.I rarely feel the palpitations.Last month,I had done Endoscopy n Ultrasound. The ultrasound was clear.Only it found Acid reflux, that was not big deal for me.Even i did ECG n doctor told me that it was fine n there was no problem to worry.I am still frightening, whether i m having heart problems or not.Now i am on Zantac 150 mg morning(empty stomach) n evening(30 min before meal). It seems to work but i am still scary about my heart. So please tell me GERD affect heart function or not? Or it invites heart disease?

Nabin-

Welcome to healing well.

GERD does actually cause heart problems, but can mimic heart issues. The vagus nerve controls a lot of things in your body including digestion and heart. When it is irritated it can cause palpitations.

Take care,
Bill

This is common--palpitations with the GERD although few docs will discuss this (in my experience). It is good practice to have a cardiac workup if you are experiencing chest pain and pressure as well as skipped beats (often pvcs) as you should not diagnose yourself. That said , all of these symptoms are very common for GERD, but should be controlled with your reflux meds.
