only you guys can understand....last night I ate four pieces of my friend's daughters cheese tortellini (I haven't messed up food wise in three weeks and it such a small amount) that was soaked in butter (low fat but still butter) I went to sleep three hours later and coughed all night and all day today. It was such a setback because I was seeing very very slight improvement.

I've been on Koufman diet for three weeks. Sort of the induction phase but with eggs occasionally. But zero alcohol, chocolate, peppermint, fatty meats and foods. Nothing! I can't handle it anymore. I am not seeing enough improvement to warrant giving up every food and beverage I enjoy. In a wordI'm starving and craving a glass of wine and a greasy sausage. Don't know why but i am miserable coughing and having everywhere I go somebody saying "are you ok?" and if they don't say it their thinking I am sick and why am i out in public. It's very embarrassing.

I'im miserable in two ways and I am tired of this FREAKING diet. That has done NOTHING.

Somebody throw me a line!!!! The only good news is butter is for sure a trigger food. Now I know that. Actually now that I think about it I felt not well twice after pasta!?

Thanks.

GERD is a complex condition. For some people, it is triggered by foods. However, in my case (and looks like even in your case), foods in general don't trigger it. Other than the trigger, some foods may create less acid and therefore can help, but in my case even simple foods create enough acid to cause symptoms.

Kaufman diet is good for those whose throats are hurt and burning due to reflux - the less acidic the diet, the less it will trouble you in your throat - so less acidic foods are better for helping heal your throat.

thanks.I have had the burning only twice. My only symptom is violent cough (productive with actual reflux coming up). I'm on elavil but it doen't seem to be working.PPI's maybe would have helped but dr.kaufman is weening me off so now i'm on zantac 4X a day. It's doing nothing. I hate this thing. I really do.
