I have not posted in awhile. I have Gerd and have just recently had another scope and found out i have peptic ulcer disease and some emptying issues. I ama 44 year old male and completely frustrated. not sure what to do. my doctor says it is due to stress and genetics. negative for H pylori and Barretts. I quit taking omeprozole (40mg 2x a day) 2 months ago and have not seen any change in symptoms which answers my question if the meds stopped working. I have tried EVRYTHING under the sun. natural and medical. Truthfully most of the natural stuff i did not give much of a chance. My doc says i need to go on a "caveman" diet, reduce stress and let my stomach heal. I barely eat and at 6'3 am now down to about 170lbs. (was 220). He said due to poor swallow test Nissen is NOT a good option.
My questions
What natural remedies work best for GERD. My symptoms are closer to LPR with lots of belching
Slippery elm? Marshmellow? Ginger?.........................    Teas or powder, tablets?
any info on natural rememdies will be much apprecieated. blush
BTW I produce to much acid so low acid is not the problem. I have been working out for past month and feel decent. Just scared I am withering away.
Thank you

Hi DD,
Sorry to hear you're struggling.  There are many members who specialize in natural remedies, so I expect someone will be by soon with suggestions.
I hope you get feeling better soon!
Best wishes,

I think different natural remedies work for different people, you will need to try some and find out.

There is a GERD diet which is similar to the Paleo or Caveman diet. It is called Fast Track Heartburn. I've started a thread here on it. The book is available from Amazon.

DoubleD. I feel for you. We want to help each other. One thing I know is that people WITH problems are on the forum, -- those who have had successful surgery for GERD do not hang around the forum. We are blessed that some successful patients hang with us in the forum as we need their advice and support. The few successful ones know this, and many thanks to them. So don't give up on surgery as an option. Take a look at the Linx Anti Reflux Device that is implanted laparoscopically around the lower esophageal sphincter to prevent refluxate from going up the esophagus. 40 minutes, home same day and eating meals that must be chewed very very well to prevent dysphagia. Ask your docs if this is appropriate for you. Read up on it at
From what I've read you have had all the tests. What were the pressure readings at you LES ? Did you see an GI doctor? I hope you get feeling better and be careful with any weight lifting.

Thanks Pat,

I will look into the info.

Why should I not lift weights? My doc said it was ok

DoubleD. Please follow your doctors advice. The only reason I mentioned caution with weight lifting is that one doctor said it could have been a causative factor by straining the LES by too many strenuous repetitions. Who knows for sure?

Hi DoubleD1331,

Let me suggest a few remedies that I believe will help your LPR.

1. Manuka honey for coating your esophagus, relieving irritation and promoting healing.

2. You have some stomach motility issue. Acupuncture / acupressure, stomach massage, could help.

3. Get some Zantac and use them as needed while you quit your omeprazole.

**4. Eat an antioxidant-rich food every day. I suggest blueberries and cherries. A MUST HAVE, they reverse the cell damage in your gut.

5. If you can stand the taste, I would suggest raw cabbage juice to heal your gastritis / ulcer. It has excellent anti-inflammatory properties. Make one cup to drink/sip gradually in the morning and afternoon.

6. As for the liquid you feel in your mouth every morning, it could be bile. You might want to have it tested in a lab, or do a multichannel intraluminal impedance monitoring.

Good luck
