I'm a 67 year old female with GERD an regurgitation. Recently had endoscope with no Helicobacter. Being referred to surgeon to see if I am candidate for reflux surgery. Has anyone else encounter this situation?

I thought I was having an allergic reaction to PPIs as my eczema flared up at the same time I took them and I seemed to have some other side effects. However, what I perceived to be drug reactions were not all drug reactions. I found I was OK on Lansoprazole and that some of my other symptoms were due to anaemia. The PPIs seem to somehow exaggerate other symptoms, which when tackled independently were fixable.

Are you allergic to the drug or its "packaging" I.e. colourings and casings? Have you tried liquid versions? Have you tried taking antihistamine alongside?

I had severe swelling and blistering rash with Prilosec, and itching rash with aciphex and zantac. So far two docs and pharmacist have advised against taking these drugs. Also had itching rash with carafate. I have never been allergic to any meds before these.

By all means avoid those drugs...

Good luck with the surgery. It's worth it.
