Just wanted to update you all - I tried having some broiled fish last night and it seemed to go ok - I took really tiny bites and chewed them really well, and they seemed to go down ok. This morning I could feel a little piece of food or something in the back of my throat, and had felt it since I tried a few small bites of bread two nights ago at dinner. I coughed it and another piece of food out, and I'm glad the two little pieces came out but I am wondering if this means anything? I haven't had food get caught/stuck since Sept, until this happened.

I'm kind of bummed out and wondering if I'm taking my PPI correctly. I don't always take it at the same 2 times every day, is this a schedule I need to stick to rigidly and I've also head different opinions on taking PPIs on an empty stomach only, my pharmacist said it was ok to have had something to eat a little while (2 hours) before taking my 2nd dose at night, and I've read other opinions that said PPIs should be taken on an empty stomach (easier for the first dose in the morning).

Does anyone know if there is a certain amount of time someone should wait to eat before taking a PPI? I'm on omeprazole twice a day if that helps.

Also last night before I tried the fish, I was very apprehensive since that is one of the foods that got stuck originally, and I could feel my throat tightening up. Does anyone have any advice on controlling that kind of anxiety?

Hi x,

Sorry you're having problems.  Here's a link to a great article about how to take PPIs.  I believe it only discusses  a morning dose, but if you're taking it twice a day, you can just follow the same routine for both.

Good luck!
