I am a new person to this site Interesting and helpfull reading. I wanted to float my issue and see if tere are any others out there dealing with the same. I have been dealing with acid reflux and chest pain for the last 30 years. I have also been dealing with kidney stones for the last 20 years.

I seem to go through the same cycle every few years. It is a long and painful cycle. This last attack started in late July with my upper body being very tense and tight. Over the next few weeks that grows in to tightness in my chest and then starts to turn into horrible chest pains. I see the doctor and we normally agree it is related to acid reflux. This year I was scared enough I went to the ER and as normal, nothing was found. Once I feel like the chest pains are getting a little better, I notice some blood in my urine (it is September now). Then I start to pass kidney stones. Through Thanksgiving day I caught 5 stones and probably assed a few others tht is did not catch. They were analyzed and are the most comon type. During my kidney stone phase my acid reflux pains seem to go away or maybe I do not notice them since I have other pain to deal with. The kidney stones seem to have stopped at the end of November. Slowly I had been tarting to feel better from the kidney stones and now the acid reflux is getting bad again, mostly the chest pains.

Looking back over the last ten years, this cycle seems to repeat it self everytime. I have a pretty good doctor and have recently seen the gastroentinologist, cardiologist and urologist and all of them can not find anything really wrong. No good solutions except for the normal recomendations. I have followed most of it most of my life. This last round really had me down and still does. I will be 50 this year and it is depressing to think I will have to live this way for the rest of my life. If anyone has dealt with anything like this. I am all ears.

I am fairly new here myself and I have had GERDS for the last ten years. In September of last year I had my first kidney stone, which was the worst pain I've ever had and after dealing with it, a few weeks later, I had upper abdominal discomfort. My doctor ruled it out as gastric inflammation. Just as I was getting well from that issue, another kidney stone attack came in December and with that the upper abdominal discomfort came back as well. I have an appointment with both the urologist and gastric doctor in the next couple of weeks. I just have a feeling the stones caused inflammation on their way out and stirred up other problems. I doubt the doctors will concur, but I find it coincidental. I hate to hear that you've been going through this for so long. It's so difficult to deal with. Take care and I hope it gets better for you....

No doubt that the kidney stones tear things up on the way out. The urologist agreed with that part. He wants me to take Flowmax for 3-6 moths to let everything heal and calm down. The Flowmax does help with the urinary end. The doctors do not feel that there is a link between the GERD and stones. I think there is something going on. I hate to admit it, but I think part of it is tied to my stress level. For 2013 I plan to work on the stress and mental life and see if I can get past some of this. The counselor I have been seeing is convinced that all of this is because I hold so much in. I almost never vent my anger and hold it it.
Good luck on your end, I will post more as I figure stuff out.
