Not sure exactly where to post this but during the last few weeks I have been diagnosed with GERD so I will try here. Can a doctor deny you a simple cbc blood test and/or a scan of the neck if you want one?

Hi gigglesalc,
Good question.  I guess it would depend on your doc and your health insurance.  Most docs will do tests if it is non-invasive and alleviates their patient's concerns.  Some docs are hard-nosed and will not do tests they think are not necessary.

You can take comfort in this, though--with all the health-related lawsuits, doctors tend to overtest, rather than undertest.  If your doc refuses those tests, he/she must be extremely confident they're unnecessary.

I'm sure others will be by soon to share their views on the subject!
Good luck!
Hang in there,

Thanks for responding. My regular doctor refused to do so. I went back to her because I have a neck ache and a small bump/bulge that is sometimes hard to find, it seems to bury itself. I took prednisone for the pain and the pain went away but now has returned just not as bad. I just wanted some blood work or scan of my neck for reassurnace purposes I guess and she told me I had to come in before she could order anything. I get there she doesn't even mention what I asked for and how she talked to me I didn't feel comfortable to bring it up. I told her how I was feeling pain wise and she said she was upping my anxiety meds?? Thats all she focused on. Mind you I have never taken meds for my anxiety...this was a new lady at the clinic I go to and only my 3rd time I saw her. The first visit was for my neck 6 weeks ago she started the meds and yep...She made me feel very "little" on how she tlaked to me.

Can you change docs?  Looks like you might need one who communicates better with you, and is a more respectful listener.  I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks maybe I could call the ENT I went to for gerd~ I am still under his care and he is the one who gave me the prednisone for my neck to begin with. He said it was tendonitis...she mentioned lymph node at this past visit.
