Hi everyone! As you all know I have been struggling for quite some time now and feeling very hopeless. After lots of meds, an ENT with no explanations and an arrogant GI i had enough! I went to my new GI today. He was friendly...shook my hand, introduced himself..tiny things i look at in a good doctor.
Anyways...we talked about all of my symptons and he told me that I have sensitized my larynx and esphagous and thats whats causing chest pain, alergy like symptons, burning and swelling. Basically just the tiniest bit of food that would not bother the normal throat is really getting to mine! I'm not quite sure what caused this. He said that reflux could have caused it and now i'm probabaly refluxing without actually refluxing acid(sometimes) He told me i was having throat "spasms"
I explained to him that I think its ridiculous to wait until a horrible issue occurrs and then treat me, and i'd rather get this before it gets worse. He completely agreed! i was in shock. It always seemed to me that GI's didnt want to help unless they saw signifigant damage. Not this one! I was my own advocate today...and I point blank told him "lets get the show on the road"
I'm going to be doing a ph 24 hour test...and he put me on zoloft for 3 months to help desensitize my throat and esphagous. He told me he has seen a lot of success in using this medine for this. It's weird i would have never thought. Apparently a lot younger people around my age come in with the same problem takes this and it helps. So i'm only hoping!
After this...He wants to run other tests and o another endoscopy if i am not 100 percent by then.
He told me last resort is the Nissen(or other surgies but if it gets to the point where nothing is working he definately wants to look at surgery options. I completely did not expect that! It's so hard for doctors to consider that..and my new GI told me that he obviously didnt want me to go through that, but if im stil miserable after all of this then thats what we must do.
He also wasnt too pleased to hear about my other "arrogant" GI i went to and how he told me my LES was fine. My new GI doctor told me there was no way he could have see my LES preassure from an endoscopy.
Anways..sorry soo long, but i'm really hoping this works...and if anyone knows anything about what i've talked about above i'd greatly appreciate the advice.
ps. I broke my post into paragraphs denise! ;)
