Endoscopy results back~ took biposies...came back nothing cancerous...but it was imflamed....probably from my gerd~

I should be happy with that result right? Is the way to treat that with things like ....prilosec? I also started ginger/honey tea~

Severe anxiety doesn't help with this~I need to get it together, I have the answers I was looking for just goota get my mind together~

Also gerd can make you neck hurt also correct? I have some neck pains and throat pains...I need to realize that's going to happen since I have gerd and not think every twitch is something horrible~ I have read where people have throat pains daily with gerd~Thanks in advance~

Hi gigglesalc,
That's great news!  Yes, you should be happy and relieved.  I know anxiety is hard to deal with (my husband suffers with it), and it's easy to jump to another health concern.  You are exactly right...accept the good results and tell your anxiety to hit the road!

Yes, PPIs like Prilosec are used to treat a inflamed esophagus.  Did your doctor prescribe a short term PPI treatment?  Another prescription drug that can coat and protect the esophagus is Carafate Suspension.  I have found it very helpful in healing both the esophagus and stomach.

Yes, the symptoms you're experiencing are consistent with your diagnosis, and should gradually resolve as your esophagus heals.

There are also many natural remedies that people use when they either don't want to take PPIs or can't because of side effects.

I expect someone will be by to add their support and suggestions soon.
Again, glad to hear all is well.
Best wishes,
Denise

Would love some home remedies on healing the esophagus~ I was a bit confused regarding my meds....my ent gave me prilosec.....i then went to gi dototr who told me to hold off on taking the med cause he wasnt set on gerd...since i didnt have heartburn...the nurse called me with the results of the endo but never mentioned going on a med again, I don't have a follow up app for 6 more weeks with them. My reg family doc just gave me samples of aciphex to take? Several of my gerd symptoms i have had for along time but with no heartburn so i didnt realize there was cause for concern....then when food started getting stuck in my chest...went to ent and it all started making sense...since i was on a round of prednisone for soemthign else and then started taking prilosec....sometimes after i ate i would get that nasty taste in my mouth and a burning sensation in my nose...then develeoped bloody noses...i haev never had a bloody nose prior to this~....the ent burned my nose but back behind my nose i am still finding a little blood...makes me nervous i go back to him in two weeks~.....

Maybe the correct owrding was fused my nose.....to stop the bleeding...he said it was from dryness...but im not convinced of that..never had it before, ever until i started feeling the burning in my nose after eating. Trying to keep my mind accupied with one thing at a time so I was tryign to focus on healing the esophagus~ Sorry about mispellings~ =/

So now I am little stumped....the nurse called me a couple weeks ago with my endo results which i told you she told me my throat was imflamed.....i talked to the GI a couple days ago reagarding my meds and he was talking about all these things and then mentioned not to scare you but such and such and the abnormal cells can lead to barretts or something along those lines... My chances were a fraction of a percent...i said so half a percent he said even less than that. He threw me off during the convo as I have anxiety and when i hear something i can sometimes dwell on that for a sec not paying much attention to whats being said so i cant remember word for word. It seemed like he might have been categorizing them as two in the same....idk..i hate anxiety! Barretts and imflamed are two different things are they not? Clearly the nurse who called me with my results wouldnt of said imflamed if it was something else correct? I know he did say he was retesting me in one year and then if everythign looked good he would go to every 3 years? I don't want to call him back because being that i do have anxiety i think i call too much....when i probably dont but...I do have my follow up app with him in 4 more weeks.

Hi gigglesalc,
I'm glad to hear that you will see your doc in four weeks.  Nothing can go wrong in your esophagus in that short of a time, so you don't have anything to worry about. I suggest you create a list of questions.  If you're anything like me, you forget to ask things and when you're on your way home are kicking yourself for not remembering the questions.  A list will ensure that you get all your questions asked and answered. You could even create the list with spaces between questions where you can take notes.

Try not to worry...I'm sure you're fine.  If you weren't, they'd be calling you in sooner.
Hang in there!

He seemed as though I was fine. He almost was going to cancel my app in four weeks since i talked to him on the phone and reschedule for 6 month check up....i asked if i could just keep that one. Just threw me off with our convo and me not paying attention properly i suppose. There is a diffference between the two, imflamed and barretts right? When the nurse called me she was areading my my results from an endo and colonoscopy right form the paper....so i just cant imagine if i had barretts she wouldnt have said imflamed...I did hear the doctor say mild whatever it was though....he said when he looked imflammation was not even noticed by his "eye" it was only the biopsies that showed different.

Hi gigglesac,
Yes, there's a difference between inflammation and Barretts.  They always take biopsies to look for inflammation that isn't visible to the eye.  Don't worry...I'm sure it's fine.  Just start making that list of questions!

Dencha...you have the nissen fundo right? I don't want this to progress any longer I want something done...it's frustrating when most symptoms are silent so I have had no idea the damage that has been being done to me....frustrating to say the least.....this is just a post a put on another topic but wanted you to see it too..."I just called Fort Knox and set up an appointment.....March 27 for consult....March 28th for egd, mam, and bravo! Keeping my fingers crossed I am a candidate! My only hold back is when my GI now did an endoscopy he said it looked good...then the nurse called with results and said it was imflamed ....then I called doc about taking aciphex and I was occupied at the time ...but he started talking about cells changing and barretts....not sure if he was saying my imflamed esoph could change into that or what. I lost concentration for a minute thanks to my anxiety when he was talking...i do know at the end i asked if it could heal he said yes...and then he said the chances for cancer are less than a fraction of a percent, I said so like half a percent and he said no less than that each year....and he used the word mild~ This confuses me and I am nervous to call him back for specific answer...my nerves are so shot lately....Kathy told me Dr. Togneedes won't go by any others docs tests anyways he will do all his own...but if its barretts its barretts right?....I dont see how the nurse could tell me imflamed and then it be something else...Sorry Nodoubt...kinda taking over your topic with mine! =(" Even if this is a no go....i could still look into the nissen fundo correct? That is if that helps with lpr symptoms also....I dont see how it couldnt obviously something is doing damage to my esophagus so tightening up down there so stuff cant come through has to help in my opinion!

Hi gigglesalc,
I can tell you're very worried, and I can understand that.  However, even if you had heavy duty reflux daily, it is a slow progression to Barretts if it ever turns that way.  Try not to drive yourself crazy worrying about it.  You're seeing a doctor, you had an endoscopy.  It's not like you're ignoring symptoms.  Those are the people that get into trouble.  You're in good hands.  You can wait another few weeks until you see your doctor.  Maybe you could put your name on a list for cancellations. That works well when you want an earlier apointment.

My esophagus never looked anything but perfect when I had my endoscopies.  I was on PPIs and they were doing their job and protecting my esophaus.  My problem was the atypical symptom of lung probems.  Yes, a Nissen can help LPR symptoms, but GI docs are generally very hesitant to recommend surgery for them, as they fear you'll have the surgery and not get relief from your symptoms.  It took me four or five years and a lot of consistent effort from my PCP and asthma docs to finally get my GI doc to refer me to a surgeon.  Even then he offered it as an option..and told me I could stick with medication (which wasn't working).

Try to relax.  It will be okay...You following up on your sympoms, and that's what's really important.
Hang in there!  You'll get more answers soon.

Good luck!

Mild case of Barretts....so that would be a negative for the linx now~ it's so strange because I never have felt heartburn ever....the odds of the not so good thing is still very low, I feel ok today about it. Put me on dexilant and gaviscon before bed. Strongest PPI I have been on thus far. 8 weeks and it should be healing. If not then I will look into other options but I am going to try ever so hard to think positive~My ENT is who put me on these meds...and he told me it's not life threatening and I can't get any worse on these meds over the next 8 weeks so I am holding him to that and believening in him. Hoping he's not just saying good things to keep me rational...haha. I always second guess everything and I need to stop. trust what they have told me and go with it. If I am not happy at the end of the 8 weeks I will look elsewhere at maybe a bigger hospital or somethign for more options. I know I have said this many times but bad anxiety and these things so do not mix well but my kids need me to be a mom every day I wake up so that's what I need to remember. It's a really scary feeling I can't shake sometimes, I really dislike myself sometimes for not haaving a stronger mind.

Hi giggles

Seems like things are coming along ok in terms of diagnosis. Im jealous that youve never had heartburn, i wish i didnt feel it!

I have struggled with anxiety too, you should try some therapies to help it. Frequent relaxation exercises have really helped me in the past, specifically something called autogenics. Dont think that you are weak, you are the opposite. Its not weak to be anxious or afraid, some people are just more anxious than others, what matters is how you deal with it and you are showing strength by carrying on your life in spite of it. What really helped me was just accepting the anxiety rather than trying to fight it. I learned to recognise when something was an important worry, or just my 'anxiety' speaking. Then rather than try and force out the anxiety i just accpeted it was there but chose not to follow its advice. Sounds easy but its actually really hard. Staying relaxed helps me stay rational though.

Hope everything works out ok. If youre thinking about the surgery ask for the ph test as its usually a prerequisite.
