I am currently seeing a new doctor for my GERD and trying to push for the option of surgery. In the mean time, since I know that wont happen any time soon, what are some helpful suggestions on heartburn relief? I am on max dose PPIs and trying different medications has not helped.

Even though I have not gotten much help from the ones I have tried, I am open to suggestions on home remedies. What works for you?

Other tricks I am tried include elevating my bed, constantly having water to drink, and limiting the sizes of my meals. I have read just about all the basic tips you can find on any reflux website but I still wanted to ask if there were any specific home remedies worth trying.

I've tried chewing gum when my throat and chest get soar. The saliva that's created helps neutralize the acid and flush contents down your throw. Also, after about a week of chewing gum constantly, you'll be like jaws from James bond. Capable of biting through steel with ease haha.

If you do try chewing gum avoid the mint, citrus, strawberry, mango, orange kinds. They make my chest hurt, so I usually go with the kiddie kinds of gum like double bubble.

Try a low fat diet, nothing fried at all. No coffee, no soda. lots of water. I also chew gum but can not chew the double bubble I have to have mint. I am a little backwards. Some people have luck with gaviscon or maalox before bed.
I am preparing for surgery and my reflux is the worst it has ever been. I am just trying to make it until I can get it done. So I know how you feel, Good luck hope this helps.

^^ agreed!! mint gum would give me wicked bad heartburn.

one thing that REALLY worked for me was taking a shot of Aloe Vera Juice. Try it out - I swore by it before my surgery!!!
