I'm finally to the point where my doctor has recommended surgery, and I'm both relieved and terrified. I'd much rather go with the Linx and have a few questions for those who have had the procedure.

1. Did your surgeon insist that you have tests repeated? (I've had a barium swallow, 2 endoscopies manometry, and 24 ph test. I'd rather not repeat these, especially not the last two.)

2. How many times did you have to physically meet with your surgeon before the surgery? (I'm in Northern VA and the closest facility is near Philadelphia, PA.)

2. Are there any tests required that I did not list above? (I think the only thing I'm possibly missing is a swallowing study....)

3. Did insurance cover the costs of the procedure (in the US)? (I've read some people have had success with United Healthcare, while other haven't.)

4. Did you have a lump in throat sensation or tightness in your throat and did the Linx resolve that symptom?

5. Did you have a hiatal hernia? (I have a small one, about 2 cm.)

Thanks to everyone here who has posted about their surgery. It really has given me hope that I can feel normal again.

Hi KitKat,

In reference to #3 above:

I believe that it is because UHC still considers this, to my chagrin, to be an experimental procedure.
Here are the Linx codes given to me by Dr. Lipham's admin-biller at USC-KECK a couple of months ago...

ICD DX - 530.81
CPT - 43289 - Unlisted Laparoscopic Esophageal Procedure.

Please read NDL's thread completely for much more detail (I think pages 5,6,7 are the main parts) ...

Hope this helps.

KitKat. & Gastricman
United Health Care.

Mayo used those same two codes for our LINX . UHC paid then 'took' it back. (I know I mentioned this already) but Mayo has done THREE appeals. As of yesterday UHC denial still stands. 😩. We talked with both places yesterday. This is to bring you up to date. I pray that NDL doesn't get reversed. No logical explanation was furnished by UHC. (And yes I'd be able to understand their language too).

I had to do the endoscopy, 48hour Bravo pH test and manometry (swallowing test). My surgeon wanted me to do them with him so he knew first hand what was going on.

2. How many times did you have to physically meet with your surgeon before the surgery? (I'm in Northern VA and the closest facility is near Philadelphia, PA.)
my surgeon is 3 hours away. 1. i went for the consult. 2. went for all 3 of those tests in 1 FUN day 3. went for surgery 4. for 2 week checkup and I'll have to go at 6 months and 1 year. At 1 year I get another endoscopy and 48 hr monitoring study. Then that each year - the drive sucks but sooo worth it for LINX!

2. Are there any tests required that I did not list above? (I think the only thing I'm possibly missing is a swallowing study....)

3. Did insurance cover the costs of the procedure (in the US)? (I've read some people have had success with United Healthcare, while other haven't.)
so far united healthcare has - but some people worry me that i may have it denied.

4. Did you have a lump in throat sensation or tightness in your throat and did the Linx resolve that symptom?
I always had a lump or something like that. I didn't have tightness. So far LINX has fixed the reflux, heartburn, sore throats, nausea, sinus, and sleep!

5. Did you have a hiatal hernia? (I have a small one, about 2 cm.)
i don't think i had one

I hope that helps answer them! I'm half asleep LOL
