I was diagnosed with GERD a few years ago, tried Nexium - didn't help and gave me a dry mouth which just added to swallowing problems.
I've had 3 endoscopies; one to stretch esophagus-it helped with the swallowing for a few days then back to the same problems. I recently came across an article I had printed from online research on GERD and noted that certain medications relax muscles and since the esophagus is a smooth muscle thought that could be the problem. I cut back on my anxiety and sleep meds. and now no more swallowing problems, no sore throat. I had some serious worries recently and had trouble sleeping so took my regular dosage of sleep med. for a few nights and the GERD symptoms returned which reinforced my determination to stop the sleeping pill. Since then I haven't had any GERD symptoms. Why the doctors never clued into this is a question I am left with.

I had an experience of high acidity and was given PPIs and Eupatilin to help coat my stomach lining. I was prescribed 3 weeks of medication by our Physician. It went well after the 3 weeks. 1 week I was doing okay, then 1 night i had a severe toothache, keeping me awake the whole night, so i decided to take a pain killer, less did I know that it would have a contradicting effect, my acidity went back and became more worst and I got bloated, my stomach felt so full and I was having problems breathing (acid reflux). Going back to the Doctor, I was prescribed with just Pantroprazole and Normix (antibiotic for the intestine) for another week, as my Doctor was thinking that I might get/have an infection, still the same, so I was advised to see a Gastro Doctor. The Gastrologist basically gave the same medications but was a bit upgraded. He gave me a week of Prazole Plus (a mix of PPI and Motillum) and Mucosta for the stomach lining. It had good results, as the pain and attacks became less, but I still get reflux every once in a while. I did not under go any tests to determine if this is GERD, but that's what the Doctor thinks. Now I'm taking Prazole Plus for another 3 weeks.

Base on experience, you have to always asked the Doctor if taking any other medications along with the ones for GERD can be harmful or not (as adverse effect is possible)

I have not tried Endoscopy yet, and hoping I don't have to. Can GERD be determined by that test? what did you do to get cured? was it a long term process? This is my first time to experience this, and it's very depressing and frustrating at the same time, I thought i was going to die already. Please advise!

Thank you!
