Hi am a Healing Well member - prostate cancer.
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer Aug 2010 with successful surgery Feb 2012 - PSA undetectable ever since!!
My mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer Sept 2010 and passed away April 2011, a terrible experience.
My father also passed away many years ago with lung cancer when I was only 20.
Now my best friend told me he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Esphogeal Cancer yesterday, with mets to the stomach, lymph nodes and spotting on his liver. His doctor has told him it is not cureable and respectfully told him to plan for the worst and hope for the best, maybe 6 to 12 months. His Oncologist has recommended a radiation treatment to shrink the tumors and possibly a stint to help him eat as he can no longer eat any solid foods. I am devasted with the news and to think this all started with a mild to worsening acid reflux problem. He has already experienced significant weight loss and knowing this will only get worse scares the hell out of me. Given my Mother's experience of some mild relieve for a couple of months with her 12 radiation treatments then into a hospice where she had angelic care 24/7 fading far away from the healthy person she was to her passing only 30 days later. What scares me yet again is to see this happen to my long time best friend on this planet. Looking for any words of compassion and wisodm from others who have shared similar experiences at this very difficult time.
Many thanks!!

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. My brother passed away 10yrs ago from esophageal cancer. He tried radiation but it didn't really help & his dr told him a second round would kill him so he chose not to go thru it again. He was diagnosed in late Sept & passed away in early March. In Nov, he had a "J" tube placed directly into his intestines because the mets had overrun his stomach & he could no longer swallow. This gave him his nutrition. I know how hard this will be for your friend & for you. My thought & prayers are with both of you. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
