Hello. My name is Rick, and I am new to this website. I have never really joined a online support group, mainly for the lack of motivation. But recently I have been so hopeless, upset, and discouraged due to my condition; I just thought I could use some extra support but more importantly, some opinions of what can be going on.

Heres my story. I have always had digestive issues since the age of 18. Since that age, I have been interested in bodybuilding. High protein-carb, moderate fat diet; about 3000 cals to be precise. Eating every 2 hours. I would take all kinds of nonsense dietary sport supplements, "creatine, protein, caffeine, nitric oxide, test booster, you name it." Id eat strictly for 5 days straight but then allow myself to eat whatever I want on the weekends. Thats when i started to notice my digest to act up, badly. I would feel the food just sit in my stomach. It would cause very uncomfortable pains in which vomiting was the only thing that relieved the symptoms. But I would notice that the symptoms would all go away once the weekend was over and I would get back on my strict diet. But in the future I noticed that Id get the symptoms even when I would eat clean. So it did not matter what I ate. Being said the symptoms persisted, I went to the doctor. He ordered a gastric emptying test. It came back a little below normal. 7 minutes below normal to be exact. He then prescribed me all kinds of PPI, they provided some relief. Months went on, really didnt get a huge improvement. I then got into the bad habit of smoking marijuana every day. Amazingly, I could eat whatever I want, symptom free. But after 2 years of every day use, it got to the point where it became a addiction. I obviously needed to stop. I stupidly got back into bodybuilding with all the sports supplements, strict dieting, and boom! The symptoms came back. That being said I had another gastric emptying test. But the results were normal. It didnt make sense because I have the ever so apparent symptoms of food sitting in my stomach, feeling that it takes forever to digest. Gnawing stomach aches, relieved by vomiting, and barely any appetite. At first they suspected gastroparesis, but due to the gastric emptying test, that was inconclusive. So the doctors just said functional dyspepsia.

I have barely made progress and Its been 7 months since the start of my second flare up. Im 21, weigh 135 at 5'10. NOT a way I want to live. I can barely take this. Has anyone dealt or is dealing with the same issues I am? What diet/precautions do you follow? If anything, does anyone have any insight of what the under lying issue can be? Please, please help! Thank you

Are you still taking PPI's? You might just need a different one. Also wondering if you're seeing a digestive specialist? If not your doc can send you to one.

I've been through Sooooo many tests, and if you read other's posts, you'll find most everyone on here has been through a lot of testing.

Don't worry about the marijuana. It's legal in my state for medical use, and legal for anyone that wants to use it. Just can't have more than a certain amount on you.
If it works for you, maybe you're on to something...not advocating, I'm just stating it's used medically here.
I wish my dad lived in a state where it was legal so he could have had less pain before he passed and had had more of an appetite...(and here where it's legal, you don't just smoke it, there are many forms such as drops, lotions, ets).

Now back to the subject at hand...

I'm diagnosed with severe GERD, Barretts esophagus, and have a hiatus hernia. Been on PPI's for around 13 years.
I too feel like it takes forever for my food to digest, and early on, years ago, I would make myself vomit for relief.
With the meds I'm on, I still feel the food sitting there, but not the need to vomit.
Sounds like you need a lot more testing done!

Good luck. I hope you find some answers here. It's a great place to look for answers or just support.

I'm scheduled for a Nissen Fundoplication next month. I'm done,,,hopefully,,,with PPI's. They're so bad for you long term.
Take care!

Im seeing a specialist at UPMC Pittsburgh. Its one of the best practices in the country. And yes I am, I am on protonix. I do not plan to be on them forever, its just I am afraid to get off them at the moment.

Have you found a diet that has helped?

Just a thought,--- You need acid to digest your foods, especially meat, protein. When you take the ppi's it stops the production of majority of acid,--- so it seems the food would stay considerably longer in the stomach feeling forever to digest . (Low amount of acid).

If you are consuming large amounts of protein (bodybuilding ) it would take longer.

Pat. The thing is my bodybuilding life style has been long gone. So copious amounts of protein are no longer my daily diet. And regarding towards acid. I feel worse off the PPIs than I do when I am on them. I have some relief and SOME appetite as compared when I am off them. I know a lot of people like to take HCL pills but I just dont think that would be right for me
