I personally have been helped more by Fast Tract, a low carb, low fiber diet. It has helped me more than the Koufman diet, which is low-fat.
I've heard both sides of the gum chewing issue, so try it and see if it helps you or makes things worse. My ENT specifically recommended chewing gum. Some say that non-mint is best, but I haven't found that the flavor makes any difference. Mint gum tastes better to me, the others are flavorless after a few minutes.
