I'm new to this forum so forgive me if this has already been posted. I'm reading conflicting information about chewing gum. Some sources say it's beneficial (increases saliva flow) others say not to...can increase gas in the gi tract....which is a major symptom of mine at this time.

I'm also gluten free (and was low carb til this week when I developed full on symptoms of gerd) I generally bake foods using flaxmeal flour. are high fiber foods recommended?

I personally have been helped more by Fast Tract, a low carb, low fiber diet. It has helped me more than the Koufman diet, which is low-fat.

I've heard both sides of the gum chewing issue, so try it and see if it helps you or makes things worse. My ENT specifically recommended chewing gum. Some say that non-mint is best, but I haven't found that the flavor makes any difference. Mint gum tastes better to me, the others are flavorless after a few minutes.

I can't go without my gum. The more saliva the better to wash away acid.

I use chewing gum whenever I'm not well with reflux sensations or a feeling that a meal is sitting 'high up' (which is sensation rather than physics I guess). It helps a lot and the peppermint helps me with nausea symptoms. I use it during flare ups but find if I have too much I get cramp in my feet - probably too much aspartame or something!!
