I had the NF done this past Monday, 6 days ago. I seem to be healing really well without much pain at all. Stopped pain meds on 2nd day home. No GERD symptoms at all since surgery until this morning...

I've been on a liquid diet all week. I added vanilla yogurt and did well with that too. Today I tried scrambled eggs for breakfast (1 whole egg plus 2 egg whites, cooked without butter or oil). Had 1/2 glass of apple juice afterwards. about 90 minutes later, heartburn and very noisy stomach gurgling. And I felt like I had a big lump in the uppermost back part of my throat. What was all this about?!

Can anyone explain what may have happened? I chewed very thoroughly and it took me about 25 minutes to eat all the egg.

Thanks!

Elaine. Other members will be responding soon. Welcome. 🌺🌺
I think the apple juice was causing some problems as it might have had some added vitamin C and it kinda burned when it hit the fresh surgical site . There is a list of post op foods on this site and will try to send it Keep us posted on your progress Regards

Hi Pat,

Thank you. I should have mentioned I've been drinking apple juice all week since the surgery. In fact it was always on my tray at the hospital. I have been tolerating it well along with grape juice and cranberry juice.

I think it was the scrambled eggs that caused my problems this morning - unless you think it was the combination of egg with apple juice?

Elaine-

Remember the 1st 2 to 3 weeks the wrap area will swell. While this is happening the wrap will become less functional and will gradually come back as the swelling goes down.

With adding more solid foods remember to chew very well, liquid consistency. Also stay away from soft bread, toast is OK. Stay away from solid meats, ground is OK.

Limit meal size to 1/2 cup at a time and eat frequent small meals.

Take care,
Bill
